Abu talib died in 619 AD and whereas the following verse

" It is not (proper) for the Prophet and those who believe to ask Allah's forgiveness for the Mushrikin, even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the Fire (because they died in a state of disbelief)" (9:113)

was revealed in medina after few years. so there is some time gap (atleast 3 years) between his death and revelation of this aayah. So how can it be said that above verse is revealed in connection with abu talib as mentioned in sahih muslim (https://muflihun.com/muslim/1/36)

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا حَضَرَتْ أَبَا طَالِبٍ الْوَفَاةُ جَاءَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَوَجَدَ عِنْدَهُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ وَعَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَيْ عَمِّ قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ كَلِمَةً أُحَاجُّ لَكَ بِهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ " ، فَقَالَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ : أَتَرْغَبُ عَنْ مِلَّةِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْرِضُهَا عَلَيْهِ وَيُعِيدَانِهِ بِتِلْكَ الْمَقَالَةِ حَتَّى ، قَالَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ : آخِرَ مَا كَلَّمَهُمْ عَلَى مِلَّةِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَأَبَى أَنْ ، يَقُولَ : لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " وَاللَّهِ لَأَسْتَغْفِرَنَّ لَكَ مَا لَمْ أُنْهَ عَنْكَ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ سورة التوبة آية 113

Narrated Al-Musaiyab:

When Abu Talib's death approached, the Prophet (ﷺ) went to him while Abu Jahl and `Abdullah bin Abi Umaiya were present with him. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "O uncle, say: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, so that I may argue for your case with it before Allah." On that, Abu Jahl and `Abdullah bin Abu Umaiya said, "O Abu Talib! Do you want to renounce `Abdul Muttalib's religion?" Then the Prophet said, "I will keep on asking (Allah for) forgiveness for you unless I am forbidden to do so." Then there was revealed:-- 'It is not fitting for the Prophet (ﷺ) and those who believe that they should invoke (Allah) for forgiveness for pagans even though they be of kin, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of the Fire.' (9.113)

Sahih Bukhari : Book 65, Hadith 4675

The first verse was talking about Guidance هداية and second verse was talking about asking forgiveness for the mushrikeen and It's clearly the first verse :

("Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.") Quran 28:56

was revealed immediately after Abu Talib died and prophet peace be upon him continued to ask forgiveness for his uncle even after he immigrated to Madinah until Allah SWT revealed the verse :

("It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.") Quran 9:113
