  • doing a good deed for the sake of Allah

When doing a good deed for the sake of Allah how should we form our intention
is it ok to put the words only for Him on a piece of paper and look at it whilst doing the good deed or is this shirk?
are we suppossed to think of the words sake of Allah or Only for Him in our heads
or is it sufficient to say only for Him before doing the action??
    jazakallah khairan

The intention is that feeling inside you when doing something which only you know as it is inside of you. When you go in the market wearing a certain type of dress only you know why you choose that dress. Was to impress others or because you felt comfortable in it?

You have to work on rectifying this inner self when doing deeds. Are you doing a deed to show people how pious you are or to please Allah. These are all questions which reside inside you and only you have access to that. So work on making sure that everything you do is only for Allah. The feeling inside of you that this is only being done for Him and for no other reason.

but i wanted to know when we state our intentions do we have to state them before the act only - is this sufficient- or do we have to
state the intention (doing it for Allah ) throughout the whole act of worship as in before during and afterwards?

You do not have to state anything verbally. It is the intention inside of you which suffices.
