    Re: List of Abrogated Verses

    ABROGATION - real meaning

And This Quran verse ITSELf gives the Right meaning for the word So Called ' ABROGATION'

Noble Quran 2:106 ''None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?

The Arabic word is Mansookh is often translated as abrogation which probably isn't the best meaning since it actually has some negative implications to it such as scrapping and quashing. Replacing, But in the above verse Arabic word Mansookh is translated as Abrogation but it means it does not scrap the previous verse but it actually brings a better verse than the previous one which is the exact meaning described by the Noble Quran itself which is also proved below from a verse of Quran 2:184 and hadith of Salama (raz anha) .

    see in verse 2:184
''[Fasting for] a limited number of days. So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person [each day]. And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. But to fast is best for you, if you only knew.''

This Means though the Translators has TERMED the word as ''Abrogate or Cancel'' by reading the latter part of the verse its is NOT exactly CANCELLATION in both the Quran verse 2:184 and salama's Hadith but its as a replacement of '' SOMETHING BETTER or SIMILAR '' as the verse says in the last part of the verse 2:184 '"............................................. ... ........................................... And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew.''

So compare the same with hadith from Salama '' When the Divine Revelation: "For those who can fast, they had a choice either fast, or feed a poor for every day," (2.184) was revealed, it was permissible for one to give a ransom and give up fasting, till the Verse succeeding it was revealed and abrogated it.

So its Clearly proved that though it is termed as '' Abrogate '' But it really did not mean cancellation but replacing with something better as in the verse 2:106.

Response: The abrogated verses are no longer in the Qur'an. They included verses like stoning for adultery and temporary marriage. These verses are no longer in the Qur'an and should no be practiced as they no longer have authority or ruling in Islam.
