Zakaat, Sadaqah and Lillah

What do they mean? If you pay more than 2.5% for Zakaat, is the extra Sadaqah? What's the difference between Sadaqah and Lillah?

Sadaqah - This is the general term used for giving charity in Islam. All acts of worship through financial expenditure are, by broader definition, classified as Sadaqah.
Lillah - This is Sadaqah Nafilah but is a type that does not have the condition of having to be passed into the possession of a person, as it can be given to institutes (e.g. Masajid, hospitals, schools, orphanages, Administrative costs etc).

If you paid more then i think you *can* carry it over for next year's Zakaat and if less then you have to pay the difference. I imagine the best thing would be to make the intention of it(the excess) being Sadaqah.

So Lillah is Sadaqah Nafillah and this is the optional charity. Sadaqah Wajibah only comes into effect if there is a promise to Allah :swt: and this becomes obligatory for you. Makes more sense now :jkk:
