  • Allowing the lesser of two evils

:salams what is the ruling for allowing the lesser of two evils? For instance, say you're a mom or dad, and your daughters want to smoke hookah with a bunch of boys. Would allowing to smoke it in your house instead of them going out with the boys be deemed permissible? And the parents have exhausted all possible scenarios, but the kids continue to persist in their evil. The parents don't want their kids to go more astray so they'd rather prefer they stay where they can watch them.

No. It is the duty of the children to listen to their parents. How old is this girl? If they don't want to listen and is stubborn to just do what they want then it's time to give them the boot and kick them out of the house. Then it will be time for them to grow up real fast and see the error of their ways.

Yeah, that's what I suggested. The problem lies in that they're not really kids. I should have clarified that. They're adults in their early 20's.

Remind them the reality of death and The Day of Judgement and that they would be in front of their lord who knew what exactly they did in their life eons before the existence of the Heavens and the Earth. Relieve them of the delusion they are living in. Also how were they even brought up in the first place were they taught good moral values over state education?

Then it's time to show them the door if they refuse to take good advice and listen to their parents.

What if they just get worse? Young people living on their own is just disastrous. Think of the fitna..

In your case Africa it is better to allow them to smoke it in your home as the alternative will be potentially more harmful

Smoking can kill you, it's less harmful than hanging out with men

lesser evil is allowed , in extreme cases.

But , they should be told , smoking is No good.

But I can understand , these days , no one bothers to listen.

Don't let your kid doing both!!

It's just like asking, would you prefer swallowing Belladonna or Arsenic? Answer : whichever you choose, they'll kill you anyway!

Going out with boys will harm her chastity, smoking hookah will harm her health and brain. Both are just different poisons.

Your course of action is in part shaped by where you live.
In Western countries, parents of adult children have no legal rights or legal duties over their children. You cannot use corporal punishment of any kind.
In the case that you live in the West, you must stop your daughters from going out at all. Takeaway their wealth, their cars, their phones, even their keys to cars, your home etc. stand against hookah and associating with hookah people. The parents rejection is of hookah cannot be reversed nor compromised because these daughters show they are rebellious and sinful, ignorant and contemptuous.
Deny them even to go to school until they show themselves to be trustworthy AND repentant.

If you are in an Arab Muslim country, then you may be able to use corporal punishment like flogging. The father has more authority to correct the bad conduct of adult children. Even if there is a criminal case, judges are supportive of parents rights. Tunisia may be an exception.
