Re: prophet muhammad's visit to taeef

The death of Abu Talib signaled the beginning of a difficult period for the Prophet (radiallahu 'anhu). None of the Qurayshites dared touch the Prophet (peace be upon him) during the lifetime of Abu Talib, but now the restraint was gone. In one instance, dust was thrown over his head. And to make matters far worse, the Quraysh, moved by the desire to impose themselves upon the Prophet (radiallahu 'anhu), insulted and mocked at him and made caustic remarks on Islam. When the pagans persisted with their mockery and sarcasm as well as resolute behaviour, the Prophet (peace be upon him) thought of going to Taif to seek the help of Thaqif.(17) The Prophet (peace be upon him) intended to invite them to Islam for he believed that they would receive his message with sympathy. His expectation was apparently well grounded as he had spent his childhood with Bani Sad who were settled near Taif.

Taif was a delightful city, only next to Mecca in its population and prosperity, holding an important position in the Peninsula as alluded to in this verse of the Quran.

And they say: If only this Quran had been revealed to some great man of the two towns (Mecca and Taif)?

    [Qur'aan 43:31]

Taif was also a religious center since pilgrims from every part of the country visit its so-called Temple of al-Lat and thus, it competed with Mecca in such respect for the latter housed Hubal, the chief deity of Arabia. Taif was, as it still is today, the summer resort of the Meccan aristocracy. An Umayyad poet, Umar Ibn Rabia said about his beloved:

Winter in Mecca, living in clover, In Taif she spends the summer.

The inhabitants of Taif, endowed with diversified large farms and vineyards, were wealthy and prosperous. They had become conceited and boastful embodying the following description of the Quranic verse:

And we sent not unto any township a Warner, but it's pampered ones declared: Lo! we are disbeliever's in that which ye bring unto us. And they say: We are more (than you) in wealth and children. We are not the punished!

    [Qur'aan 35:34-35]

In Taif, the Prophet (peace be upon him) first met the chiefs and leaders of Thaqif whom he invited to accept Islam. They were, however, rude and discourteous in their treatment of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Not being content with their insolent reply, they even stirred up some gangs of the town to harass him. These riff-raffs followed the Prophet (peace be upon him), abusing and crying and throwing stones on him, until he was compelled to take refuge in an orchard. The Prophet (peace be upon him) consequently had to endure even more obstacles in Taif than he had to face in Mecca. These jerks based on either side of the path threw stones at him until his feet were injured and smeared with blood. These oppressions grievously dejected the Prophet (peace be upon him), whereby being in such a state of depression, a prayer citing his helplessness and pitiable condition and seeking the aid of God spontaneously came thru his lips:
O Allah, said the Prophet, To Thee I complain of my weakness, resourcelessness and humiliation before the people. Thou art the Most Merciful, the Lord of the weak and my Master. To whom wilt thou confide me? To one estranged, bearing ill will, or, an enemy given power over me? If Thou art not worth on me, I care not, for Thy favor is abundant upon me. I seek refuge in the light of Thy countenance by which all darkness is dispelled and every affair of this world and the next is set right, lest Thy anger should descend upon me or Thy displeasure light upon me. I need only thy pleasure and satisfaction for only Thou enables me to do good and evade the evil. There is no power and no might save in thee.

The Lord then sent the angel of mountains who sought the Prophets (peace be upon him) permission to join together the two hills between which Taif was located but the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) replied, No, I hope God will bring forth from their loins people who will worship God alone, associating nothing with Him. (Muslim, Kitab-ul-Jihad).

Moved to compassion by the grief of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Utbah and Shayba Ibn Rabia sent for Addas, one of their young Christian slaves, and told him to take a bunch of grapes on a platter for the Prophet (peace be upon him) to which the bondman obeyed. While in the Prophets presence, Addas observed his kind demeanor that compelled him to talk to him and instantly professed his faith in Allah and His Prophet (peace be upon him). (18)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) then returned to Mecca where the Quraysh were as bitterly opposed to him as ever, deriding, annoying and assailing him day after day.

And those who disbelieved will then say, " Our Lord, show us those who misled us of the jinn and mankind ,so we may put them under our feet that they will be among the lowest."

Firstly , miracles do not happen when prophets ( peace on all ) want , they happen with the will of Allah ( swt ).

Secondly , Allah ( swt ) wanted to test prophet through this.

Thirdly , many miracles were shown before , but that did not change the view of people , what was the gaurantee that people would change through miracles?

          No he did not show.

Allah ( swt ) can show miracles through prophets . not the other way around.

so if he did not show miracles by the will of allah, then how could people would have beleive in him that he was a prophet? As we know that every prophet was given miracles by allah so that people would beleive that they are prophets of allah,it is obvious that just by saying that 'I am prophet of Allah' no one would beleive?hope you understand my question?

              Yes I understand your point.

A prophet is usually accompanied with Miracles.

In this case the greatest Miracle of prophet by his own testimony is the Quran. It is a living miracle.

Prophet put forward the miracle of Quran and recited it .

Among the miracle of Prophet on his visit to Taeef, was his kindness, patience, and preserverance. :)

Miracle doesn't have to be a supernatural show. Prophet's superhuman patience is beyond miracle as well. Instead of cursing the Taeef people, and said "yes" when Archangel Gabriel offered him that "the mountain angels are ready to eliminate these people if you (Prophet) want to" .... what did he done?

He said instead, "No, I hope God will bring forth from their loins people who will worship God alone, associating nothing with Him."

And His duaa is fulfilled. Only within a short time, all people of Taeef became muslims.

No blood. No supernatural "miracles". Because Prophet's compassion, is the greater miracle from all of these. :)

                  __________________________

Indeed Prophet showed some other miracles, like :

                  - Many of his future predictions came true
                  - He's dividing the moon
                  - Water gushing from his hands
                  - He's predicting death of combatants in either Uhud or Badar battle and their exact spots of death, just one night before the battle, as narrated by Umar ibn Khattab
                  - Isra' Mi'raj
                  - Foods were miraculously added in one expedition when his sahabas severely needed food.
There was only 1 goat available, so Prophet called first 10 of them to eat, then 10 again, and another 10 afterward, so on. This single goat alone can feed the whole muslim army, which was hundreds at the time.
                  - When he first met Abdullah ibn Mas'ud as a shepherd boy, he could turn a little she-goat into producing milk just by reciting aayah upon it -- wherever the goat never produced milk before because it's still too young.

It;s just for the miracles, it's only there because Allah wills, not because Prophet wills.
                  :GB_bonesrock:
And all the heavens go their way.... And only change is here to stay...

This is a Valuable question which anybody can ask and it requires a deep study and a wide answer running in pages if we study deep into the Noble Quran and Hadiths , in short I shall give some Quran verses and hadith and will try to explain later if possible and free enough, inshallah

Noble Quran 6:108 -110 ''And they swear by Allah their strongest oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, "The signs are only with Allah ." And what will make you perceive that even if a sign came, they would not believe.''And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the first time.
'' And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly ''And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly. And even if We had sent down to them the angels [with the message] and the dead spoke to them [of it] and We gathered together every [created] thing in front of them, they would not believe unless Allah should will. But most of them, [of that], are ignorant.''

Proof from hadith :When once Prophet was sitting and chatting with his cousin Ikrimah (His uncle's son) Ikrimah asked something are you really the Prophet of Allah and he wanted him to show a miracle. They were near a stream (or Oasis) and a boulder stood on the other side. The Our Prophet asked if he showed a Miracle will he accept Islam ? Ikrimah said yes. So Prophet called the boulder and it moved piercing the water and came and stood in front of Prophet and greeted ' asalamlaalikum O messenger Of Allah ' and when Prophet saked Ikrimah to accept Islam he asked to order the rock , boulder back to its position and when Prophet did it so by the help of Allah But even after that, Ikrimah did not still accept Islam ( I forgot -he commented you are a great magician , i think ) but Ikrimah accepted Islam just before or after the Mecccan Victory and he became one of the very pious sahabas..

                    .”[Ibn e Majah 4023]

Mus’ab ibn Sa’d reported on the authority of his father (Sad (RA) ) that he asked, “O Messenger of Allah, which people will face trials most?” He said, “The Prophets, then the likes, then the likes. A man is tried according to his religion. If he is firm on his religion then the trial is severe and if he is soft in observing his religions then he is tried according to his religion. Then, the trial does not remove from the slave till he walks over earth having no sin on him.”[Ibn e Majah 4023]

This points plus the post of Sister Aradiane (previous post will give you an answer inshallah
