  • New Muslim need advice please

Slamm all I have recently reverted back to islam. I grew up in a Christian House but have now found my path. Can anyone help me with a question. Im currently learning how to pray I have been using this video to learn how to pray in aribic , I don't speak Arabic so it's a learning curve, can someone have a look at the video to check it's ok and if I follow all the steps and words then my pray will be expected

    https://youtu.be/g9l4u_EIqOI

Also if I learn to pray like this will that be enough for me to pray 5x a day ? So I can do 2 and 4 rakaat when I have learned from this video I just have to adjust when it comes to doing 4. Sorry for the basic questions thanks for any help

Thanks I'm hoping to go this Friday, Im just going to follow the other people because I have no idea what to say but I learned the "moves". I don't know anyone from the mosque personally so I don't know who to ask etc + I find it easier if I can keep going back to a video so correct my grammar and say the right words. I only been studying the Qur'an about a month and been studying prayer for a week now. Thanks for the reply

Speak to the imam, that's what he is there for.

but yes ultimately the best would be going to the mosque and learning from the imam.

This is a good video series and I used it to learn how to pray when I converted. You can copy him when you pray, but don't act as if he is your imam for prayer or something. Just play the video when the time for Salah comes and copy him. If you don't know how to copy what he recites I can get you the transliteration of it. Just let me know.

So there are 5 obligatory prayers in a day. You can download an app that will let you know when to pray each prayer. The first is Fajr which has 2 untis, the second is Dhuhr which has 4 units, the third is Asr which has 4 units, the fourth is Maghrib which has 3 units, and the fifth is Ishaa' which has 4 units.

How to make wudhu (ritual ablution): https://youtu.be/DaKb2zX1QBs

                Fajr prayer: https://youtu.be/Kuk6HgOH9yQ

                Dhuhr prayer: https://youtu.be/Nq3Fa-mwNeE

                Asr prayer: https://youtu.be/IoOSSoL-U7E

                Maghrib prayer: https://youtu.be/wmoxCD7vl_c

                Ishaa' prayer: https://youtu.be/g9l4u_EIqOI

Here is the transliteration of the two supplications after wudhu: ash-hadu an la ilaaha illa Allahu waHdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu was rasooluh

Allahumma-ja'alni min attawwabeen, wa ja'alni min al muta'tahhireen

Also, after two units (rakah) of salah, one must sit and points their right finger. When this brother prayed his finger was curled and pointed downward. This should be avoided. Try to keep your finger straight.

If you remain persistent upon praying, you will probably pick everything up sooner than you might expect and Allah will make things easy for you.

Also, I advise you to study the translation of what you recite so you will understand what you're reading and focus on the meaning when praying. Avoid thinking about anything else in the prayer and know that you are calling upon your Lord.
Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient. (57:16)

                      Wa Alaikum Asalaam,

As others have advised, It is very important that you build a support network to help you with your journey as a new Muslim. So I hope that your local Masjids/Islamic centres will have the necessary support you need, especially for reverts as then you will be able to connect with other reverts on a similar journey to you, as well as knowledgeable Muslims who will be able to help teach you what you need to learn and to answer any questions or queries you may have. You should try to join any Islamic study and learning courses that may be running as well as support circles etc.

Please also refer to the following thread to also help you with learning the prayer:
