I am wondering if the book, "The Life of Muhammad" translated by A. Guillaume is authentic Islamic literature. It is translated by a British Christian, so I get leary of these books; unless I'm shopping at a Muslim-owned bookstore.

You do not need bother with reading seerah written by a kaffir about our beloved Prophet s.a.a.w. when we as Muslims have our own scholars to do such tasks. That being said, may I suggest a few suggestions.
The best modern day seerah is Dr. Muhammad as-Sallabbe's "The Noble Prophet" in 3 volumes with over 2000 pages of authentic sources with lessons and morals at end of chapters. https://www.amazon.com/Noble-Life-Pr.../dp/9960967867
A shorter seerah called "The Sealed Nectar" https://dar-us-salam.com/english/bio...l-makhtum.html
"When a man sees the road as long he weakens in his walk." Ibn Qayyim
