  • Feeling like converting

I come from a Hindu background but have become drawn to Islam over the past few months. I really want to start praying but have not taken my shahada yet as all mosques are closed. Can I convert on my own? Also, what resources would you recommend to start praying? I eventually plan to start eating meat as well but want to make sure it is halal. Any recommendations on this would be appreciated.

    Welcome

Converting to Islam is really simple all you do is say with your tounge and believe in your heart the following

Ash hadu an la ilaha illallah wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh

This means I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah and Muhammad is his servant and messenger

You can convert on your own no problem

I recommend this site www.islamreligion.com they have a bunch of good articles about Islam including some about converts from Hinduism and a live chat q&a for you to ask questions

As for praying salah I recommend the following video

    https://youtu.be/syE-bhpoFCc

    May Allah bless you
"My servants, you who have transgressed against yourselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Truly Allah forgives all wrong actions. He is the Ever-Forgiving, the Most Merciful." (Surat az-Zumar: 53)

As-salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh and my warmest welcome to the religion of Islam.

As mentioned above, you can say the shahadah on your own.

Here is a letter for new converts with some very good advice along the way,

      https://aboutislam.net/family-life/y...-here-for-you/

Below is a detailed introduction to the prayer in a very comprehensive way.

      https://iera.org/new-muslim/learning...yer-booklet-2/

New Muslim Academy is a platform that offers free online courses for new converts. You will find a lot of classes that will benefit you greatly in shaa Allah.

      https://www.newmuslimacademy.org/amp/

You may possibly be able to order a kit for new converts online for free, depending on where you live.

See information about halal and haram meat below.

      https://www.islamweb.net/en/fatwa/84...m-meat-or-food

May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala guide you, accept every single one of your good deeds and reward you for all that you do for His sake.

      Ma' salam.

Looks like Allah the Almighty wants to bless you the the most beautiful gift, you're so fortunate!

As well as what the posters above have said, do you have any Muslim neighbours/friends/friends of friends who you can call and ask for support?

Because you have said there are many Masjids around your area, it seems you will find some good Muslims close by who can provide you with all the help and support that you need, in addition to the online support!

May Allah keep us all steadfast on the life and ways that He desires from us, and fill in our hearts a hatred for all that is disliked by Allah.

And when it is said unto them: believe as the people believe, they say: Shall we believe as the foolish believe? Beware! They indeed are the foolish? But they know not.
        Al Baqarah : Verse 13

            Hi,

As already mentioned, you can take your shahada on your own. I would also advise on finding muslims friends to socialise with and learn from, this will make things alot easier.

Also, its the month of ramadan, in case you didnt know. Our Lord has commanded us to fast this month. So if you are able to, then I would advise you to fast.

            May Allah swt guide us.

Do not rely on videos or links though, ask at your local mosque - otherwise you'll find it hard to understand various topics e.g. prayer times etc. (and you will likely have many questions that need answering).

In general you cannot really go wrong by going to you local mosque, whatever school/view it is, and seeing what they say.

Insha'Allah I pray Allah guides you and me.

You are right, may Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala forgive me. I live in a fairly small country and I was looking at examples similar to those we have around here; apparently, I wasn't reading the info well enough. Alhamdulillah that you informed me about this, jazak Allah khair, I've removed the link.

Thank you for the help. Is Shia very different from Sunni Islam?

Salam, they place more emphasis on certain personalities and members of the Prophet;s family peace be upon him. Some goto extremes in this way and have developed other beliefs which are not found in the Quran or Sunnah.

I suggest the following sites too for learning and support in sha Allah.

                              www.islam-guide.com and www.islamwise.org.

if you need any help or support , please post away.

First things first, is to perfect and learn your prayers and develop and strengthen the connection with God , or as we say Allah.

Prayer, fasting, giving in charity and the Hajj and the declaration of faith are the 5 pillars of Islam.
