Some parents need a slap. If you are unhappy the way your child is, don't blame your child, blame yourself.
If you are against abuse then you are against abuse you can't pick and choose.

Unfortunately, these two topics are seen as taboo in the Muslim community, esp. child abuse. I can remember countless of lectures I've seen addressing the importance of respecting parents in Islam, but never one on child abuse.

If a child complains about the abuse/ neglect of their parents towards them, it's always the child that needs to be reminded and lectured about the rights of parents in Islam. It's rarely the other way around. This further causes parents to misuse their power and authority as they know their children are prohibited by Islam to be rude them. So what do they do, carry on with the abuse/ neglect as children have no rights in Islam to disrespect me regardless of what I do to them.

P.s: I don't want to derail this thread any further. Why don't one of you start a new thread about this topic.
Who's up for it, DaughterOfAdam or Rebel101?

Yes, start a thread telling parents to be good parents and not lame, abusive parents. And that if they are unhappy with their child, it's their own fault. Children don't turn out the way do they on their own. Bad parents mess up their children.

It's funny how some women think they're such great mothers and there's nothing wrong with them. If you were a great mother, your child will love you. If they hate you, that's your fault.

Sadly I agree. I feel some parents live their lives through their children as they are in unhappy marriages

                        May Allah forgive our shortcomings.
                        8 powerful habits to succeed

                        1. Wake up early!
                        2. Do it as soon as possible, you could die tonight so make the best of today
                        3. Remember your life is unique, don't compare yourself to others. Use that jealousy as an energy to make your life a success"
                        4. Have healthy habits. Set a time each day to exercise. Try with the mindset you're only going to do some jumping jacks for 5 seconds and the next thing you know, you're doing a workout!
                        5. Read, read, read. Ponder over the Qur'an, learn more. Put the idiot box (TV) away
                        6. Take note. Desires make slaves out of kings and patience makes kings out of slaves.
                        7. Results aren't just worldly. Results are also about perseverance, retaining dignity, being honest, being honourable, doing good unto others.
                        8. Always encourage others especially our brothers and sisters, let them know making mistakes is okay, we all make mistakes, do not ever undermine them and make them feel incompetent. This id also true for the dunya, so what if they don't get the maths sum right the first time, that is what LEARNING is.
