  • A Soul's Promise

Let all die and break away,
Become as dust that scatters abroad,
But for you soul you must stay,
Were you to break I'd be not whole,

    Now before me mountains rise,
Towering heights of labour reach high,
    Yet I neglect work unwise,
    Despite any gift of intellect,

    Then body break and stumble,
    From carelessness do ailments begin,
    Reputation does crumble,
Head first in failure and privation,

    Now constant disappointment,
Would that they never thought so highly,
That they kill me with judgement,
So let me read them out my soul's will:

    "Let all die, break away,
    As dust does, drift abroad,
But for me, I must stay,
    A promise to the Lord."

Amir ul-Muminin Sayyiduna Ali KarramAllahu Wajhah said,
"Mahma tasawwarta bi-balik, fallahu bi-khilaf dhalik,"
Whatever comes into your mind, Allah is other than that,

Al-Aqeedah Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (Riwayah Abu Bakr al-Khallal),
