    Remember Yusuf

    Remember Yusuf

    When you're feeling sad
    And all alone
    No family or company
    To call your own

    Always think good
    Of your Lord - Allah
    Recite, reflect
    On Surah Duha

    Your Lord never abandoned
    And does not hate
    He knows the reality
    Of your state

    He knows your strengths
    And what you can bear
    Compassion, so vast
    And never unfair

    Say Alhamdulillah
    And do not cease
    Sight, hearing, intellect
    May your blessings increase

    Forgiven or raised
For even the prick of a thorn
So in the end you'll be sinless
    Like when you were born

    Remember the prophets
    Suffered test upon test
    Heartbroken, mistreated
    And they were the best

    Reflect on Surah Yusuf
    How distressing was his state
    Continually tested
Allah's love for him is great.

    You are my Protecting Friend
In this world and the next
Make me die as a Muslim
And join me with the best.

I called it Remember Yusuf because: although other prophets ('alayhim salam) were greatly tested too - Yusuf's ('alayhi salam) story is in the Qur'an - showing how he was tested with one severe trial to the next, and in the end he saw how Allah elevated him - and also made his dream come true. And if we just look at the trials we only see tormenting hurt and sorrow. But we are told the reality: that ALL the time, ALL along, Allah was with him and cared for him, setting him up for something SO incredible in this life and the next. We are shown just how beautiful Yusuf ('alayhi salam) was, and now we all love him too!

I imagine when Yusuf ('alayhi salam) made his Du'a to Allah in the end, that perhaps he felt such a deeeep love for and closeness to Allah; his heart full of gratitude, so touched by Allah's sheer Beauty and Compassion. I imagine he made that Du'a with tears of awe pouring out, wallahu a'lam.

Hence, 'Remember Yusuf' when you feel overwhelmed.

No believer is pricked by a thorn or more, except that Allah will raise him one degree in status or He will erase a sin. - Sahih Muslim

The slave [of Allah] will continue to be tested until he is left walking upon the earth sinless. - Al-Tirmidhi
