    Re: Vocabulary Learning Aids

I would suggested spaced repetition which has backing in research carried out in cognitive psychology. People who learn Chinese often use this system since they have to memorize over 50,000 characters! I have used this technique to consolidate my Quranic Memorization as I have outlined here and am using it to learn vocabulary, fatawas, fiqh, rules pertaining to Science of Hadith, and disease information for my upcoming Medical Exam.

I can assure there is no better way then to use spaced repetition. It saves time and ensures that what you learn is transferred into long term memory. There are free programs such as Anki and FullRecall which makes use of this phenomenon to allow you to memorize anything. For those interested in reading more about this phenomenon you can read it here. For those who want to download the software and start learning here you can download either Anki or FullRecall.

I'd be a bit wary of arabicpod. Initially I thought they were great, but later learnt that some of their work is in dialect. Additionally some of their podcasts which they say is in fusha, isnt completely grammatically correct even by their own admission.

ANKI is a free flashcard program which you can use on your computer/android.

There are numerous arabic decks that have been uploaded by users, including Quranic arabic flashcards.

"For the indication of the beginning of the ajza, ahzab, their halves and their quarters."

So you'd see the symbol on the right at the beginning of a juz, at the half of the juz, at the quarter of the juz, and at the beginning of a hizb.

    And Allah ta'ala knows best.
