  • Arabic broken plural rules

    Salamo 3likom brothers and sisters!

    This is my first post here. I've been a member for a while, this is the first time i logged in for a while (I use to read as a guest only)
    Today I've decided to make my first post asking you about the broken plurals.

    I can begin to explain a bit what I'd like to do. I am a webdeveloper and I am creating a script which let's it's users to type a noun and press submit, then the plural should be showed to them.

    I've followed a list of patterns in wikipedia, link here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_...erns_in_Arabic

    The script is uploaded as a demo at my site: http://www.arabicjomla.com/plurals

    Two of the patterns that is in the list in wikipedia is:
    CiCāC -> CuِِِِِِِِCuC
    kitāb -> kutub

    CaCC -> CuCūC
    qalb -> qulūb

    Now the list is longer in wikipedia, you can check the link i reffered to.

    Do you got more patterns that ain't in the list?

    Check out my demo to test it yourself.

    Assalamo 3likom

    EDIT: I TRIED TO POST A NEW THREAD, TODAY AND YESTERDAY IT DOESNT WORK SO I AM EDITING THIS.

    Salamo 3likom wa rahmatullaho!

    I recently made a thread about arabic plural rules, here.

    I was creating a website script which allows an user to type an arabic noun then the script would return the possible plural of that noun.
    I have now finished with most of the patterns and I would like you brother and sisters to try it out to look if it works good, and what you think about it, and maybe any ideas what it might be useful for inshallah.

    Now, when trying, you have to type shakal (also known as harakat) on the words. Shadda too! There are som examples at the site.

    The script is up at Arabic Jomla

    :wswrwb:

    I'd welcome you, but you've been creeping around for a while now, so not really need. But anyhow welcome

    I tried the example of kitab given for the script and it gave me kitab un, instead of kutub

      Thanks!

      Are you sure you wrote the word kitab with shkals like this:

      كِتاب

      As for me it's working and gives me the result: كُتُبٌ

        Akhi, I didn't even write anything.
        I just copy and pasted the one you had there as an example.

          Re: Arabic broken plural rules

          Must be some kind of misstake, I've copied that word(كِتاب) many times (Just did it again), and it gives me the right result.

          You could try again if you want to. If not back to the question itself, if you've checked the link at wikipedia, thera are some patterns of singular to plural forms. I wonder if you/anyone know more of these patterns.

            It works now, didn't the first time though.
            Probably some minor bug somewhere.

            edit: I found what it was, if there's a space either before or after the word it will give the wrong one.
            But what's weird though is that the first time it didn't give me that guessing message, it just gave kitabun, now it gives that 'I'm guessing' message

              Alright, I fixed the bug with the space thing. I am not sure but it might be some bugs there because I have just uploaded the script as a demo for myself and others,

              It works, but there are still many words not working to translate like, biit which should be biyoot. right?

              do you know any patterns?

                    السلام عليكم

                    I tired with the word مَيِّت and it posted : Found no pattern so guessing: ميتون.
                    I think there is another word which is أموات، wa Llahu a'lam

                      I am not sure about what is right, but try to write without Shadda

                      The word مَوْت
                      gives أَمْواتٌ

                        Very fine then, but I tried again with مٓيِت , the result is rather inconclusive. Otherwise it's an amazing tool ! Jazak Allahu khayrane

                          That's why i asked the question here, if someone can show me more patterns so I can enter them in my code so more words can be translated to it's plural form.
