  • "And within Your Own Selves, Do You Then Not See?"

    Bismillahir-rahmaanir-raheem.

    Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah

    وَفِي الْأَرْضِ آيَاتٌ لِلْمُوقِنِينَ
"In the earth, there are signs for those who (seek truth to) believe,

    وَفِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ
and in your own selves! So, do you not perceive?"

    -Sura Adh-Dhariyat, Ayah 20-21

The length of blood vessels in the average human body is longer than twice the circumference of the world. (100,000km and 40,000km respectively)

Consider the heart ceaselessly pumping blood around the body, day and night while we are free of pain or discomfort from its beating. Subhaanallah. Alhamdulillah.

In order for us to see such colors, wave lengths (approx. 400 nm- 700 nm) are converted to electrical signals so our brain can process this information.

The cornea and lens work to focus light on the retina (the retina is where such signals are converted).

Mind you while all this is going on, it appears to us in a matter of milliseconds. We were created with utmost precision, it baffles me how people believe all this was 'random'.

A reflex is an involuntary movement and it's something we are born with (not learned). Meaning, it's of the most basic human movement.

In order for it to happen, sensory receptors on the skin perceive the signal (for example a burn), this signal must travel to the spinal cord where it simultaneously activates two parts:

                        1) the signal is carried out to the brain where the brain processes what is going on
                        2) the same signal turns on the motor receptors that move the muscle

Sub'ana Allah, this movement happens as a protective mechanism and happens within a matter of seconds. No thinking is involved nor is it voluntary; if you notice, sometimes we jolt our hand when there is pain without even knowing where that pain came from or what caused it (was it a burn, an insect bite, an animal bite?).

That's also why the doctor does the hammer thing on the knee, it's to test the reflexes (nerve function and spinal cord damage).

Imagine if we had to think about all these process prior to actually moving a muscle, we would've burned our entire limb off.

To continue with this miracle we call vision, physics is involved.

The distance between the lens and the retina are calculated such that the wave lengths always focus on the retina. If focusing doesn't occur, we get 'near-sightedness' or 'far-sightedness'. However, our Lord is so merciful that we don't go fully blind if light isn't fully focused on the retina. Although vision becomes blurred, we still see.

The pH in our lungs is higher than the pH of other tissue parts. Lungs = 7.6 and Tissue = 7.2

This seems like a tiny difference, however, when the pH is higher, oxygen binds to hemoglobin easier (hemoglobin is the protein in blood cells that transport oxygen). When pH decreases, Oxygen is released easier. Hence, we get oxygen from the lungs and the oxygen travels to our tissues faster because of this slight pH difference.

This difference in pH also is made such that it doesn't harm our other body tissues. Sub'ana Allah
