Ibn Qayyim RA said: Adam AS was taken out of Jannah, while he was in it. He was taken out because of a single sin that he did. And you are constantly doing sins, while outside of Jannah, yet hoping to enter Jannah.

The Sheikh commenting on the quote said, look at how small the sin of Adam AS was; he only ate from a tree. And compare that to our sins: we commit indecent and immoral acts, we consume interest, we backbite... [and compare that to our aspiration].

Stupid hand of mine. Why are you so quick to jump back when you touch something hot, and yet so quick to reach out to what will cause you to burn?- Ammar Alshukry

            Ibn Taymiyyah writes:

"The occurrence of afflictions are actually a form of blessing, since they are an expiation for sins committed and they call for a person to have sabr - for which he is duly rewarded.

Likewise they cause the person to turn to Allâh in repentance, being humble and submissive before Him, whilst at the same time turning away from hoping in any of the creation. There are - besides these - other great advantages."

And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

Do you not see that Allah has made subject to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth and amply bestowed upon you His favors, [both] apparent and unapparent? But of the people is he who disputes about Allah without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening Book [from Him].

              Ibn al-Qayyim writes:
"Were it not that Allaah treats His slaves with the remedy of trials and calamities, they would transgress and overstep the mark.

When Allaah wills good for His slaves, He gives him the medicine of calamities and trials according to his situation,

so as to cure him from all fatal illnesses and diseases, until He purifies and cleanses him,

and then makes him qualified for the most honourable position in this world, which is that of being a true slave of Allaah (‘uboodiyyah), and for the greatest reward in the Hereafter, which is that of seeing Him and being close to Him."

"Truly in the heart there is a void that can not be removed except with the company of Allah. And in it there is a sadness that can not be removed except with the happiness of knowing Allah and being true to Him. And in it there is an emptiness that can not be filled except with love for Him and by turning to Him and always remembering Him. And if a person were given all of the world and what is in it, it would not fill this emptiness."

                -Ibn Al-Qayyim.

A calamity that makes you turn to Allah is better for you than a blessing which makes you forget the remembrance of Allah.

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God
who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect
has intended us to forgo their use.
