  • Hadith on Laughter: Why have you made My servants despair?

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to his companions while they were laughing and talking. The Prophet said, “By the one in whose hand is my soul, if you knew what I knew, you would laugh little and weep often.” The Prophet departed and people started weeping, so Allah Almighty revealed to him, “O Muhammad, why have you made my servants despair?” The Prophet returned and he said, “Give glad tidings, follow the right course, and seek nearness to Allah.”

    Abu Malik at-Ash'ari reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Cleanliness is half of faith

and al-Hamdu Lillah (all praise and gratitude is for Allah alone) fills the scale, and Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah)

and al-Hamdu Lillah fill up what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light,

and charity is proof (of one's faith)

and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against you.

All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.

Because all this time I only knew about the first bit and I'm thinking "where has the second bit been hiding all this time... and why haven't I come across it until now when I've come across the first part so many times????".  I'm not shocked that a hadith can state this, in fact it makes far more sense now- I'm shocked as to why the second part of it has been kept from us for so long.
