Do 'hanifs' still exist, what does the Quran say about them?

During jahiliyah there were believers known as 'hanif' who were neither Christian nor Jewish but generally Abrahamic monotheist.

Most eagerly embraced Islam - but did any refuse, and if so, what happened to them? Were they regarded as heretics or hypocrites?

In Indonesia we sometimes have "old believers" - originally Hindus who became Abrahamic monotheist and rejected paganism, but never formally joined Islam or Christianity. Does Islam say anything about these "monotheists of no religion"?

      1) Hanif is another word for Muslim, Allah described Ibrahim(peace be upon him) as both:

      A) Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth(Hanif), a Muslim [submitting to Allah ]. And he was not of the polytheists. (Surah 3:67).

      2) If such people never heard of Islam, inshallah they will be going to paradise. An example of that is Zayd ibn Amr. However, if they heard of Islam, they have to follow it, or else they will be like the disbelieving Jews.

      A) Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers and wish to discriminate between Allah and His messengers and say, "We believe in some and disbelieve in others," and wish to adopt a way in between -Those are the disbelievers, truly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.(Surah 4:150-151).

      B) Indeed, those who have believed [in Prophet Muhammad] and those [before Him] who were Jews or Sabeans or Christians - those [among them] who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness - no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.(Surah 5:69).
