Al Aqida Al Tahawiyya, By Imam Abu Jafar Ahmed Ibn Muhammad Ibn Salama Al Azdi Al Tahawi, English Translation And Commentary By Mawlana Fahim Hoosen

This short treatise on ‘AqTda (Islamic theology) written by Imam TahawT though small in size, is a basic text for all times, listing what a Muslim must know and believe.

The importance of this text lies in the fact that it corroborates the views of Imam Abu HanTfa, the founder of the HanafT school of jurisprudence, that have come down to us from differentsources. Imam Tahawi summarizes the views of the great Imam and shows that they were in conformity with the
traditional views of the orthodox school.

The doctrines enumerated in this work are entirely derived from
the undisputed primary sources of religion, the Qur’an and the
    confirmed Hadith.
This text, representative of the viewpoint of Ahl al-Sunna wal-
Jam&a, has long been the most widely acclaimed, and indeed
indispensable, reference work on Muslim beliefs.

SOLUTIONS To DOMESTIC CONFLICTS By Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani

The position that Allah has granted the honourable Maulana Mufti Muhammad
Taqi Usmani is very well known to everyone and it reflects Allah’s approval of
his services to Islam. His writings, sermons and research have benefited Muslims at every level of society.
A collection of his addresses and sermons has been published in Urdu, entitled
Islaahi Khutbaat. It is a compendium of assorted subjects of Islam, like elementary deeds, rights of Allah and of fellow-men, current issues, disagreements within families,
prayers and good manners as taught by the Prophet mutual relations and a host of other topics. In short, this book invites its readers to adorn themselves with good manners and to cure themselves of spiritual maladies.
Darul-Ishaat is also honoured to publish the English translation of this treasury, Discourses on Islamic Way of Life, to cater to the demands of the English speaking people and to enable them to derive full benefit from these lectures. Initially, the same pattern was followed as was adopted in Urdu and each volume contained lectures ondiverse topics. However, these volumes are now re-arranged to group together each subject or allied subjects in separate book-form to permit greater benefit to students
    and seekers of specific information.
However, certain consicferations do apply before studying these books.
This collection is not a specific writing of the honourable Maulana. Rather, hehad delivered lectures, sometimes extempore and these were recorded and then a transcript was used to publish the Urdu books. The English translation followed next, the source of which is speech and not a written composition. Though an effort is made in the translation to convey the meaning of the original message, yet possibility of omission or misinterpretation cannot be ruled out. It is nearly impossible to compress all aspects of the original in the translation. Hence, every deficiency, shortcoming or error of interpretation lies on the shoulders of the translator.

    Saladin By Abdul Rahman Azzam

Like Alexander or Caesar, the name of Saladin carries a timeless quality. As
famous today as he was when he drove the Crusaders out of Jerusalem, the historical Saladin has dissolved into legend with each generation's retelling of his story. Dante placed him in the first circle of Hell with
the heroes of Troy and Rome; Rex Harrison played him as a cad in the film King
Richard and the Crusaders. In Youssef Chahine's epic film Saladin, he emerged as a hero of Arab socialism, and he has even made an appearance in an episode of Dr Who. Today, Saladin's name continues to resonate with Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and Colonel Gaddafi all, at one stage, claiming to be his military and spiritual heir. But who was the real Saladin? To answer this question, A. R. Azzam argues, it is essential to appreciate the age Saladin lived in.

ISLAM IN BRITAIN, 1558-1685 By NABIL MATAR

This book examines the impact of Islam on Britain in the period from the accession of Elizabeth I to the death of Charles II. Professor Matar provides a new perspective on the transformation of British thought and society by demonstrating how influential Islam was in the forma tion of early modern British culture. Christian-Muslim interaction was not, as is often assumed, primarily adversarial and oppositional; rather, there was extensive cultural, intellectual and missionary engagement with Islam in Britain. The author documents the conversion of Britons to Islam and Muslims to Anglicanism, and surveys reactions to these conversions in British writings and society. He examines the role of the Arab-Islamic legacy in the prisca sapientia and the impact of the Qur’an on Anglican- Puritan political discourse; he also shows the role of Islam in the extensive debate over coffee during the Restoration period. Professor Matar demonstrates that in churches and in coffee-houses, in sermons, plays, and pamphlets, Britons engaged the civilization of Islam in a manner that superseded their engagement with any other non Christian civilization in the early modern period. Finally, he turns to the theological representation of Muslims in British eschatological writings and contrasts it with the representation of the Jews. Nabil Matar is Professor of English at the Florida Institute of Technology. He is the author of over sixty articles on seventeenth century English history, theology and literature and editor of Peter Sterry: Select Writings (1994).

Religion On The Rise, Islam In The Third Millennium By Murad Wilfried Hofmann, Translated From German By Andreas Ryschka

An informative, authoritative, and provocative book. Whereto is the highly civilized world heading ? Are Christianity and Islam prepared to take on the challenges of a new era in human history ? What are the intrinsic values and moral virtues of a humane society that can help humankind survive peacefully, guided by reason • and in harmony with divine revelation? Dr. Murad Hofmann, former German ambassa dor to Algeria and Morocco, analyzes present conditions and future prospects of the Western world under Christian influence, and the Oriental civilization under Islam. While both reveal merits and demerits under his exacting critical scrutiny, he unequivocally comes down in favor of Islam as the way out of the moral decay infecting the Western society. "Nobody at least halfway alert to cultural phenomena, regardless of geographic loca tion, will deny that the future development of his world is going to be influenced, if not determined, by what will happen in the Muslim world and to Islam itself. Could Islam, as a consequence, turn out to be the very therapy that could save the West from itself?"
