Make good use of the modern technology:-

Technology has evolved rapidly in the last century or so. On such example of this is the evolution of the phone, from its basic calling mode to smartphones that can even connect to the inter-web and the computer going from a single core processor unit to being equipped with 10 cores or more processors.

As you can see technology has improved at such a swift rate and no generation has embraced this phenomenon more so than the millennials. But what about technology in the context of Islam? How can we use it to learn more about our faith?
“My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (20:114)

Allah gives a big importance in seeking knowledge, so one of the main factors of usage of technology should to learn more about Islam.

With the invention of smartphones, there are also applications that can be used to learn more about Islam, such as Salah 3d which is an application to learn how to pray, and several Quran reading applications that are available for smartphones, such as iQuran. All of these applications can be used by Muslims all over the world to study Islam deeper.

With the introduction of social media such as Facebook and Twitter, Muslim millennials all over the world can continue to create informational content for Islam as well. There are a lot of Islamic centered pages in social media that spread useful information about the religion and these pages help a lot in giving useful facts about Islam.

Another useful thing about technology in Islam is the advancement in video production. YouTube is one of the main video streaming sites available on the Internet, and there are live videos in almost all of the main social media networks. Muftis can upload their personal lectures to these websites, and people can access them anytime and anywhere. Classes around the world can be streamed on social media so people from other countries can watch the lectures.

But of course, with the usage of technology, there are always the good and bad sides to it. While I talked about the good side of technology, at certain times, our intentions don’t align with our beliefs, which shouldn’t be the case.

There are many people who use technology to spread hate speech about Islam, especially with the current trend of connecting terrorist activities with the religion. The increase in terrorist activities around the world has caused the rise in hate speech towards Islam on the social media or other websites on the Internet.

Finally, while technology isn’t perfect, with the right intentions, the tech can be used for good and this is what we should strive for in this modern age.
