  • Be just even if against yourself

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah , even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.

    Qur'ān 4:135

Many people quote this Verse. They often do it to justify their actions against their parents. You must speak the truth even if it be against your parents.

It feels empowering to take on your parents. You have seen them as figures of authority all your life. They have told you what to do at every step. Now, you are grown up. You tell them the truth. You use the Qur'ān to justify what you do.

Rebellion has such an addictive high. People who have been suppressed their entire lives love to rebel. Their rebellious behavior is a product of their subjugation.

But the real rebellion should begin with yourself. The Qur'ānic Verse does not address only parents. Did you overlook the part where it says even against yourself? If you missed it, it means you were looking for an excuse to break free from what your subconcious mind termed your subjugation at the hands of those given the right to tell you what to do.

Admit it. Accept the truth even if it be against yourself.
