All those who think celebrating birthdays is haram because it makes us imititates non muslims, firstly prove how it celebrating or having a good time about the day you are born somehow related to non muslims and their activities. Secondly, orthodox christian women also wear hijab and male jews also keep a big beard, then why is this imitation rule not applied on that level?

Re: Is celebrating birthdays imitating kafirs/christians/jews?
Ancient Egyptions were the first recorded to practice birthdays (except the 'birth' they celebrated was when a pharaoh was crowned and therefore 'reborn' as a 'god'), Ancient Romans were the first to celebrate birthday's of anyone who wasn't royal or wealthy or seen as a 'god' and the idea of birthday cakes and candles are an invention by the Germans.
So yeah, a lot of scholars consider birthdays to be imitation of kuffar (and it's safe to say they are right) but a lot of scholars also see it as permissible and harmless.

Re: Is celebrating birthdays imitating kafirs/christians/jews?
All of this is nonsense... because if you ask the one who celebrates mawlid about his intention he will say "to get closer to Allah" or "to get closer to the Prophet (SAW)". How can they celebrate the birth of a prophet without that being tied to a religion?
Also, Halloween and the other holidays have virtually no ties left to a religion anymore. Yet it's still haraam because we would be imitating the pagans and their culture.Last edited by Abu Abdur_Rahman; 26-12-15, 10:25 PM.
