When this event actually has been observed across the Arab World, in countries like Turkey, African countries as well as the Far-East. Sufism has deep roots in pretty much every Muslim land, it is how Islam took roots in these countries in most cases.
Just a few days ago I was given salutations from a brother in Morocco who was informing me it was the birthdate of the Prophet (Saws). He was joyous, happy and we both spoke in praise of the Prophet. It was beautiful.
I think its very convenient for some people to pretend its only one type of people - all I will say to these people is - open your eyes.
