  • Overrated new stories?

    :salams

Why do some news stories get more attention than others? For example, the Syrian refugees seems to get more attention than the Rohingya refugees?
Life's actually pretty simple: you just have to enjoy it, pray, do good, refrain from bad, and respect others. Being Muslim is not a disadvantage or an advantage - it's a responsibility.
"So patiently persevere: for verily the promise of Allah is true" (Qur'an, Surah Ar-Rum - 30:60)

It's all apart of a calculated plan.

The Syrians are infiltrating Europe so it will make the headlines, the Ronhingya Muslims do not affect the west so there is no need to report it..

But even the Muslims participate in that sort of hype. I'm not saying they don't show empathy towards the Rohingya Muslims, but all you see on social media are reports on Syrian refugees and Muslims showing concern for those they see in the media and not looking at other places where there might be less media coverage.

It seems like that, anyway. Anyone agree?

          Wa 'alaykum salaam wa-rahmatullah wa-barakatuh.

I'm surprise that we still wonder this.

          One word: Propaganda

The sooner we realise that the life of a Muslim means nothing to them, the better.
As for the Syrian refugees, many of them end up going to Europeans countries; so there's a concern there.
In case you didn't know, there are MANY protests being done in some European countries against letting Syrian refugees go in.
Just recently, a Syrian brother was attacked in his own home by some guys. He was brutally beaten.

And just to add, Rohingya isn't the only other case being ignored. Let's not forget Central African Republic, and I'm sure many more.

          May Allah help the Muslims.

Sis, this is nothing new. Most Muslims today also follow the crowd like everyone else. When we stop taking the Qur'an and the Sunnah as our guide, we start following whoever is in power in other to feel accepted. They want to be part of "society," so that includes even if society does wrong; doesn't matter.
We live in a time where people just follow like sheep without thinking for themselves.
There are few independent news outlets here and there (some of which are Muslims) who try their best to shed light to problems around the world without being bias.

You have to understand who controls the media. Once you get that, you won't be surprised anymore about things like this. It's an interest based propaganda. That's also how
many countries got invaded and unjust wars got fought.

Interest; as in what interests them. I explained it in detail in my comment.

                Oh, okay, makes sense.

                ----

So, is it a bad thing if Muslims start creating awareness to support those Syrian refugees? In the sense that instead of looking at Rohingya Muslims, they only focus on the Syrian refugees.

I completely agree, sister, and it seems sad to say but many Muslims are also brainwashed by the media hype. Just look at Syria, how many people wanted to join the Syrian rebels when the media demonised Assad and yet the Palestinians have been oppressed for much longer by Jews(!) and yet hardly anyone is willing to flock there. So the media knows what they are doing when they focus on a particular story and give not so much as a mention to others; this is done to brainwash and distract people.

Example: If the media was to focus on the Rohinyan Muslims and how they are being oppressed by the Buddhists then there would be an uproar all over the world, yet they ignore such cases as the Rohingyan Musims, and Kashmir and all other places because getting rid of the Buddhists is not beneficial for them (Zionists), however getting rid of someone like Assad (and before that Gaddafi) was part of their plans and so they demonised those two. Its all calculated. May Allah give us understanding, Insha'Allah.

Syrian men who flee sham (ie flee jihad) are not worthy of respect nor should they be felt sorry for.

Sad indeed that ikhwa from the west are fleeing to syria while these males are fleeing away.

If u really want to help them, give them a gun and tell them to go fight.

What news stories should be getting our attention, then?

As much as it's nice to see people helping the Syrian refugees, there are other stories out there, and the Syrians have been in crisis for years now. They're getting a lot of support - maybe it would be better for some organizations to donate to other causes, I think. Not just fill media with the Syrian refugee news. More efforts can be spent on something else.
