  • Muslims got scammed: International Muslimah Fashion Week was a scam!

    http://www.imfw2014.com/#!imfw/c2414

The so called International Muslimah Fashion Week that was supposed to be held in Hershey, Pennsylvania turn out to be a scam.
I can't post the link here from facebook but there is video. People who had checked in early were made to leave the hotel. They stopped letting people check in. Designers had flew in from London and was trying to set up their booth and the hotel didn't know what they were talking about. One sister even flew in from Indonesia.

All this just happened last night. Drama and speculation has been popping off on Facebook & Instagram.
    http://www.imfw2014.com/#!imfw/c2414

I KNEW something was fishy from the beginning.
    1. Who in their right mind would have an event for Muslims in Hershey, Pennsylvania? All the Muslims are in Philly?!
If anything this event would have drawn a larger crowd had it been in a major metro area (Detroit, NY, DC, ATL, Miami).

    2. The ticket prices were OUTRAGEOUS! We talking $300 and that didn't even include the hotel room!

    3. A couple of months before, 3 large headliners (YaztheSpaz, Babylalialov, Author Zara J) all pulled out but could not comment as to why. Being that all 3 had some coins, if they said anything negative (and caused people to run, lol) they could have gotten sued for defamation.

In the end, there will be no recompense. One of the organizers turned out to be a low level thief from Atlanta, GA (her mugshot was posted last night). So if anything the poor people can call the credit card company and file a claim for their even ticket. But some people spend thousands to come to this po'dunk town in Pennsylvania.

They were advertising a special men's lodge and separate events for the brothers since plenty of sisters flew in with their mahram. :(

"Islam is like a bird, the body is the love of Allaah , the right wing is the love of Jannah, and the left wing is the fear of hell-fire, if you take away one of the wings, then the body will not fly and if you take away the body, the wings have no use" Ibn Taymiyyah RA

The hotel confirmed the 1st day of the event that venue was not paid for.
Not even a deposit was made.
People who showed up for the 1st night (Thursday was supposed to be a ball or something to kick off the event). Didn't happend.
Designers and models were just roaming the lobby. At one point they stopped letting people check in. Those who did had to leave. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
I'm trying to find the post from the designer who flew in from Dubai and had models and excessive luggage with her. She said she spent over 10K!

Muslimah personalities, bloggers, designers, artists and fashion enthusiasts from all over the world arrived today in Hershey, Pennsylvania to attend International Muslimah Fashion Week (IMFW), which was supposed to kick off Thursday evening (local time) on March 20th.

But instead of being greeted with salaams and a warm welcome, they were told that the event was cancelled.

Omer J Mirza from Australian Islamic fashion label Acacia emailed Aquila Style to say, “The IMFW has been cancelled before it was to be started. A lot of people have been affected, both ticket holders and vendors. Amidst all of this, police was called in by one of the vendors. People had been kicked out from their Hershey Lodge rooms.” He added that the situation on the ground was a “complete chaos”.

Dina Toki-O was among the dozens of fashion bloggers who arrived at the venue only to find out that the event appeared to be a scam. In an email to Aquila Style, Dina wrote: “Well, basically all of us bloggers who flew out were left stranded and now we’re in a kind person’s house until we can get to New York! Loads of designers and vendors were left robbed and stranded, too. Shea Bates pretty much ran away after the police spoke to her as they couldn’t do anything, anyway.”

Dina, along with many other guests such as Maryam Alani who posted a video about her experience, had flown for hours only to get stranded at the Hershey Lodge, the venue where the event was supposed to take place.

“Everybody got kicked out… Like literally people had to go pack everything and leave the rooms,” Maryam wrote on her Facebook account.

The event was organised by a woman named Shea Bates, who allegedly has a criminal record. Her LinkedIn page claims that she is “Chief Operating Officer at Muslimah Conventions”. At the time of this report, IMFW’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have been taken down. Its website was still up at 12:45pm GMT +800 on Friday, March 21st.

Such a shame. Absolutely disgusting behavior by the mastermind scammer. If we can't trust our own Muslims, who can we trust?
Allah gave us two ears and one mouth, so we can listen more and talk less.

Even though i dont support those sorts of events at all because it has nothing to do with proper hijaab, what happened to those sisters was SAD. Muslims aren't supposed to scam one another, our blood and property has been made haraam by Allah . If that lady really did all of that for the sake of her 'supposedly' sick son and needed help, she could've have just asked for it and I'm sure someone would have helped her raise money :(

Who is the scammer? So we can make sure we never try to do business with her.
