  • question for somalians

    As salamu alaykum,

Do you eat bannana's everyday mixed with other food.

My flatmate was somalian and he told me it was unheard of a somalian restaurant running out of bannanas as somalians eat it often with other food

I don't know where this bizarre idea comes from. People do eat banana as a sort of healthy dessert after eating rice, especially in the south, but not with EVERY FOOD.

You eat banana with rice? o_o As a main meal or a dessert or....?
What does it taste like? (and please don't say banana with rice).

wow...In Bangladesh we eat Banana with rice during suhr in Ramadan...My mom and grandma would always persuade me to mix rice with banana, sugar and ghee when I was young, I stopped eating it when I grew older though.

the main difference with somalis and bengalis is that they eat it with curry rice/pasta, we eat it with milk n rice
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: ‘Read, and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in the [previous] world, for your status will be according to the last verse that you recite.’” [At-Tirmidhi (2914) and Abu Dawood (1464)]

Tbh it is more of a south somali dish but its often labelled as a somali one. Bananas only grow in the south the north is more nomadic

                        This is a creation.

Called "Maghrebias banana microwave creation"... i am ao creative when it comes to names.

                        1) crunch 2 digestive.
                        2) pour melted tbspoon of butter.
                        3) flatten it in your bowl... (like you would do for a cheesecake)
                        4) slice bananas ontop
                        5) shove it all in the microwave for 20seconds.

                        Lovely.
                        Bye...

O.o we eat bananas with rice here and we're not somalian at all. We replace oats with it sometimes. Wet rice, sugar, some butter, sliced bananas. Some people use apples or strawberries, but bananas are the most popular.
