Yeah, what about about Al-Najash, the Ethopian king who kindly helped the sahaba escape from pagans? He was a Christian...

"Allah forbids you not with regards to those who fight you not for your faith, nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them. For Allah loves those who are just. Allah only forbids you with regard to those who fight you for your faith, and drive you out of your homes and support others in driving you out, from turning to them for protection (or taking them as wali). Those who seek their protection they are indeed wrong- doers. (Al-Mumtahinah 60: 8-9)"

Ukhtii, the fatwa is saying the same . we have to be kind to them and just, but we are not allowed to take them as our Awliyaa ( friends). Its important with who we hang around with, it its also not permissible for us to hang around with muslims who dont practice their deen and who does haraam things( although both have still rights over us).

You can invite them to your house you can go them but only for shari reason; to do dawa, or visit them when they are sick, if they need our help we are aloud to help them etc.
If a muslim has a non muslim family, he/she have to be good to them , its not allowed to break family ties, if your have a non muslim mother she have still the most right over ya.
They want to extinguish Allah's Light with their mouths, but Allah will not allow except that His Light should be perfected even though the disbelievers hate (it).)- It is He Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it superior over all religions even though the idolators hate (it).) Surah Al-Tawbah 32-33

Seems an extention of wal bara then? So Muslims have to hate non-Muslims and not be friends with non-Muslims?

Quite a bit about Islam appears to be about this kind of thing: "You can't do x or be friends with y or listen to z because otherwise you'll fall into sin."

          A very insecure faith?

Nope, just a very wise Creator...
"Yaa Allah grant me victory, or make me die Shaheed"

Remember how the Unbelievers plotted against thee, to keep thee in bonds, or slay thee, or get thee out (of thy home). They plot and plan, and Allah too plans; but the best of planners is Allah.

Why befriend those who will not reinforce your belief but rather question it? The duty is on Allah subhanahu wata3ala not those who reject him...

the thing is you have to hate the disbelief within another person,

try to understand we truly love our creator and we are greatful to him for everything, and those who deny him, we cant comprehend that.

Re: Being friends with the kuffar

Muslims can not take non mulism as friends. We see many muslims brothers and sister doing this. they are all misled.

They twist islam in all sorts of ways just to please the the non-muslims. Allah says most of these muslims will go to hell.

The tafsir says Umar (RA) kicked a chrisitan out of medina (arabia) and then said "take not the jews nor the chrisitans as friends". http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=5&tid=14082

These muslims and their views are wrong, the vast majoirty of muslims are wrong about islam and the vast majoirty of muslims will go to hell.

I say most muslims will go to hell because:

Muhammad (saw) said their will be 73 sects and 72 sects will go to hell (this may be a metaphor, or may be a false hadith, who knows).....Anyway from this most Muslims will go to hell for some time. There are also hadith which say out of every 100 muslims 99 will go to hell.-Sahih Bukhari 8: 76: 536

In Sura 19:70 and 19:71 Allah says, Most Muslims will go to Hell (for at least some time), but they will be rescued. Allah also states that those who die in Jihad will go to Paradise immediately. (see tafsir for meaning). The fact that allah say most muslims will go to hell shows how misled the muslim ummah is.

The unthinkable audacity, sheer stupidity and complete futility of rejecting Allah (Most High) and worshiping something other than the Creator, or to deny His existence altogether is baffling to say the least.

Why would you want to fall into sin? Usually people with common sense avoid things that harm them, not run towards it.

There is no evidence to say we can't be good friends with people of different faiths of the same sex. Why not? How many friends of your actually bother you about your faith? The ones the Qur'an talks about are those who collude with others against you. Actually we need to be close friends with non-muslims for them to see how muslims really are, nice, kind and maybe they can be reconciled to my deen. My best friend converted to Islam and she said that she was taken aback by the hospitality of muslims, and often said if the whole world was muslims the world would be perfect.

                            salam

being nice to them and taking them as friends are 2 very different things. you can be aquaintinces. like on a co-worker level, and thats about it. the reasons are obveous. and your not gonna give better dawah by being their close friend.
painful torment? (10) (If you do so) He will forgive you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, and pleasant dwellings in Adn (Edn) Paradise; that is indeed the great success. (12)

JazakAllah khair for the duas but i would prefer duas for shahadah instead.
