  • Marrying someone you know VS someone unknown

What a thought that has been on my mind.

Would you marry like to someone you know/knew or have been in touch for a while may be just as contacts or friends. This person you know and what they like/dislike and views about life and deen etc.

    OR

Would you want that challenge of getting to know someone completely new and discovering that person, who just dropped into your life as a soulmate. There is a different spice and feeling to it.

I am personally quite torn up between these.

It's not allowed to keep such friendships in the first place.

      Haraam.
You think you know more than my scholar's qiyās? He was more learned than you and all other scholars combined. Yeah, the devil was the greatest scholar too and look where his qiyās of fire being better than tīn got him. Sorry.

You follow your scholar's qiyās, and I will follow the Qur'ān and Sunnah.

well most people approach the "friends" since they know them and its easier. but obviously if they dont see them as spouse then they go to the stranger.

I understand why it is haraam, however realistically, there are many instances when you happen to know the opposite sex through many channels (family, studies, relatives) and that was my point. Prohibited but it happens all around. I am not encouraging it however.

Point is, would you prefer a known person or a completely unknown person.

Yes but that wont happen if you havent seen them as a potential spouse previously. Now that you think about it, would'nt it be confusing?

Looks like the first option is popular.

Recently, someone I know kind of indirectly asked me few questions about marriage and "would I consider her". I kind of avoided a direct answer. I know her for a while and have an idea of how she is, but never seen her that way. She is a to-be-doctor, educated and does hijab. Pretty as well. But idk, :/

                              You should go for her.
