Once Noor ad-Deen was riding along the desert with his companion and the companion noticed a look upon Noor ad-Deen's Face, when they rode back, passing that same spot, the companion once again noticed a look upon Noor ad-Deen's face, so he later asked him: 'What was troubling you when we rode past the place?
Noor ad-Deen replied: 'When we were riding there, did you see how the shadow of the horse was galloping behind us, trying to catch us up, but couldn't? and when we were coming back, did you see how the shadow of our horse was galloping ahead of us, but we coudn't catch it? That is like dunya - if we run away from dunya, it will come chasing after us, and if we run towards dunya, trying to grab it, it will run away from us and we will not be able to grab it.'
