  • Justice and Equality - Two Separate Things

We have to be able to differentiate between justice and equality. Many people say Islam is a religion of equality, and that is wrong. This concept of "equality" or that people are all equal does not exist in the Quran. (Ibn 'Otheimeen)

This statement of the Sheikh is very profound and one needs to ponder it.

Depends on how the word equal is defined.
You think you know more than my scholar's qiyās? He was more learned than you and all other scholars combined. Yeah, the devil was the greatest scholar too and look where his qiyās of fire being better than tīn got him. Sorry.

You follow your scholar's qiyās, and I will follow the Qur'ān and Sunnah.

      Yes.

What exactly are they referring to when they said Islam is the religion of equality?

As Linkdeutscher mentioned, it depends on how the word 'equality' is defined.
If following Ahmad makes me a 'Wahhaabi', then I declare that I am one.

          Who says that?

If they mean it's a religion of justice, then sure.

That's what I'm asking. Who said that and in what sense?

Re: Justice and Equality - Two Separate Things

Brothers and sisters, we should take the Shaykh's statement as is, and if we choose to refute him or offer a rebuttal, it should be backed by evidence from the Quran and Sunnah or a scholar's statement.

Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate

              Az-Zukhruf

Just to be clear, I agree with the statement. I wasn't refuting it, merely wondering why people are saying Islam is equality.

Yes I wasn't directing that at you sister. I understood your point although I didn't get it initially.

Don't mind Link, he calls everyone son... even if he's over 50.
