    Female MMA mixed club?

    السلام عليكم

For as long I can remember, I have always wanted to learn martial arts for self-defense and just for fun but there were never any clubs near me. Now there are many in my area in schools at accessible hours. And I'm sure you've all heard of Hedaya Ahmed Malak Wahba, the hijabi taekwondoer (?) at the Olympics, well she just inspired me to pursue my dream of learning martial arts and going to the Olympics (maybe the latter is not so likely lol).

The problem is, every club in my area is mixed, so I don't know what to do. Can I go, but take a friend or my sister with me, or go with a mahram? Will either make a difference? Obviously, I shall observe full hijab, secure loose clothing etc. And if it is required to partner up with someone I will be with another female and explain my religious obligations to the instructor beforehand (bowing, female partners etc).

I am not in a very good place at the moment (mentally and emotionally) and I believe focussing my energy on something like this will really help me out, but I also want to do it halal as possible.

Please don't suggest alternative sports like swimming or gym as my dad will not allow me. Nor hiring a personal trainer as I don't have much money, or try to find a female only class as I have searched tirelessly to no avail, or to just give up. If however, there is anyone experienced in this field in my area, do feel free to set up a class near me lol.

I am 20, live in South East England.

Part of being Muslim is to not be ashamed of who I am nor what I believe in, but proudly representing my faith and not letting my hijab stop me from doing what I want.

    جزاك الله

No, there aren't enough people who want to do it in my area

There must be female classes for martial arts somewhere. If there are female fitness centre then here must be female martial arts.. perhaps not an *all female club* but at least a few classes a week type of thing? Got to do your homework.
Like I said, I have searched high and low and there are no *all female* clubs in the vicinity at all. There are many clubs, but all are mixed. If I did attend, obviously I would ensure I would never pair up with a man.

I'm not sure how easy it is to avoid mixed contact with the martial arts sessions and whether full hijab requirements could be met.
And why wont your dad allow swimming or gym even in a female only environment but allows MMA?
Learning the deen? Isnt' the deen, our life? Isn't everything we learn in name of Allah s.w.t., useful knowledge encouraged by our deen? Or deen is just reading books on Islam? Open you mind, a little bit. The deen is much more than that.

Interesting question. Isnt it seperate hours for women? Over here in paki it is like that.

Anyways, I love MMA and been doing it for almost 6 months
I highly encourage people to do such things. Makes you feel fresh and stronger

Yeah I always assumed it was an act of worship and just didn't feel comfortable. Was too lazy and embarrassed to tell them I can't bow , and it will certainly be brought up by the instructor.

Have to look in to it. Jazakallah

As for me, a bigger dilemma is this mixed fighting thing...

I never really looked in to it either.. is bowing in this situation haram? According to who ?
