Re: Puppies in Islam - I really want one

Dogs are cute, but they require a lot of responsibility and maturity.

If you want one, get one. But keep him/her outside. Dogs are not haram, but their spit is najs and you can't pray in an area where they are. There are a lot of people back home who have one, but they're used for hunting, guarding, and sheep/goat/camel herding.

"Who is he that will loan to Allah a beautiful loan, which Allah will double unto his credit and multiply many times?
It is Allah that giveth (you) Want or plenty, and to Him shall be your return."
    Surah al-Baqarah
    [2:245]

I used to play tamagotchi too. #90skid. Mine weren't that cute tho, and died literally every few hours. Prepared me well.

Omg! If I keep these little cuties outside to "guard," they'd DIE. The teacups don't weigh more than 1 or 2 pounds. Pomeranians don't let their size get in the way of anything, they're like tiny furballs of rebels. I'd want to coddle them to death.

Technically they're just real life stuffed animals... sooooo. I don't think it's right to discriminate plushies with heartbeats.

Al-Bukhaari (2145) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever keeps a dog, a qiraat from his good deeds will be deducted every day, except a dog for farming or herding livestock.”

Why risk your good deeds? Also this is a western thing about keeping dogs as pets. I bet if you loved in the east you wouldn't think twice about keeping a dog as a family member.
