  • Hindu women vs Muslim women

It is a shame to see that Hindu women are covering their faces, a tradition they copied from the Muslims along with pardah, whilst Muslim women themselves are running away from this obligation.

I tried to edit the pictures in order to cover awrah but couldnt upload them so here are links, be warned, arms and neck can be seen:

It's not copied from Muslims. And more Muslim women cover than Hindu women.

Cast down thine eyes and look not up. More closely set thy feet. Let none See what thy garment veils, for thou, a Brahman, hast become a dame. [Rig-Veda 8:33:19]

YEs, I don't think Hindu women started parda or covering when Islam showed up in the continent. Covering and separation between male and female always been part of subcontinent culture

It kind of looks like they're covering their faces so they won't be recognized, not for modesty. Allahu 'Alim.

Obligation? It's not an obligation to cover the face. There's more than one ruling on niqab.

The difference of opinion is only in times of safety, in times of Fitnah then it is wajib according to all 4 madhabs.

No, it was copied from the Muslims that invaded.

Well I just semi-read an article about this. I know some do it for modesty reasons, but I didn't see anything about it coming from the Muslims.

Fitnah as in men will not lower their gaze and will have no problem approaching women etc I can post from scholars of all 4 madhabs, in 2 madhabs it is wajib in all times anyways.

Sushila Singh, a professor at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India, explains “In the mythic past of Hindu culture, all women figures as exemplified by different goddess statues are bare-headed and their faces are never veiled” (Singh NP). However, with the Muslim invasions came the purdah system for Hindu women to practice. Although this system was established for the protection of Hindu women just as it protects Islamic women, this purdah took a different form. “Veiling one’s face, or “ghoonghat,” came into practice” (Singh NP).
