  • A hadith is confusing me

Ok there is this hadith that confuses me:

Once the Prophet (:saw:) wrote a letter or had an idea of writing a letter. The Prophet (:saw:) was told that they (rulers) would not read letters unless they were sealed. So the Prophet (:saw:) got a silver ring made with "Muhammad Allah's Messenger (:saw:)" engraved on it. As if I were just observing its white glitter in the hand of the Prophet.

Soo anyone? Cause to my knowledge the Prophet :saw: couldn't write nor read.. But here. Hmm..
La ilaha illallahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa Huwa 'ala kulli sha'in Qadir
(there is no true god except Allah. He is One and He has no partner with Him; His is the sovereignty and His is the praise, and He is Omnipotent),'
Do not say about Allah but Truth.

I don't know about this hadith, so it's best to ask a scholar.
That being said, the Prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa salaam) always had someone write a letter on his behalf.

I know someone in my family (old) who couldn't write and would have someone write for her as she dictates. Yet, she would still call it as "I wrote a letter" instead of of "This person wrote as I spoke."

Not sure where the confusion is?

Prophet saw used to have scribes from within the sahabah who would do the writing. Then Prophet saw would add his seal

The Allah rasool Muhammad insignia you see on flags and t-shirts is of the ring.

When printed it would say Muhammad Rasool Allah

There was a controversy in Al Andalus, a famous Maliki Faqih in the 4th century and a few others, claimed the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, learned to read and write after his Prophethood and he used the hadeeth mentioned in the saheeh of imam al bukhari regarding the incident that happened at al hudaybiyyah.

I totally forgot that The Prophet Muhammad SAW had scribes. And yes, the way it was written confused me. Lol. I am still confused, and yes I know he SAW had scribes. but I forgot, sadly.

                  But :jkk: everyone.
