Is it Sunnah that a sister mustbe with a Mahram when she is away from her home or no?

well it is fard, because of the hadeeth that Muslim narrated from Ibn abbas that the prophet (pbuh) said "a woman is not to travel unless with a Mahram" [hadeeth saheeh narrated by Muslim].
