  • Racial Profiling of Muslims at Airports around the world

    Hi All

I love to travel. I have been to around 22 countries worldwide. However, every time I go to the US or Canada, I always get interrogated at the airports. Its quite scary because they take you to the back and fill you with lies to try and make you scared and admit to anything, just so they can take you away.

You can read about it on wikipedia under the title: Airport racial profiling in the United States

What I wanted to know is, I am planning to travel to Australia around May 2014, and if any muslims here have been there and what the experience has been like at Australian Airports? (Sydney or Melbourne).

    Thanks

My husband went to Sydney about two years ago. If I recall correctly he didn't have too many problems.
Allah gave us two ears and one mouth, so we can listen more and talk less.

be polite, jolly, confident, know where you are going and the reason and look the person in the eye when you speak.

a little politeness goes a long way.

I did that in the US. Was more polite than anyone in the airport! However, they flag your name in their database by the name on your passport, not how polite you are in person. I could have been a white guy with this name and I still would have been interrogated.

I guess its random names they add to the "watch database" based on certain conditions:

                - place of birth
                - certain name
                - Citizenship

                etc.

You shouldn't have much problems entering Australia. Just make sure you fill the declaration card properly.

Why would you want to go there anyway? It's not really a surprise.

I mean it shouldn't come as a surprise that they would do this. The US is very anti-Muslim. So after knowing this, I don't understand what the attraction is, especially if there is no real need to go there.
