  • Was Adam Caucasian and Eve Black?

Some Christians claim that Adam was a white man and Eve (Hawa) was black, and all other ethnicity were derived from them since they are the father and mother of humanity. What is the Islamic view on this?

We as Muslims do not know the race of Adam and Eve (As) but we do know that our different colors come from Allah

And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and your colors. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge. 30:22

Abu Musa al-Ashari narrated that the Prophet :saw: said " Truly Allah ta ala created Adam from a handful of earth from all the corners of the earth, hence human beings come according to the earth among them the red, the white, the black, and those in-between.

      Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi and Ahmad.

the understanding is that Allah sent the angels to all corners of the earth to gather the different colour clays and from this Allah ta ala created Adam alleyhi salam.
"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you swerve, and if you distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do." [An-Nisa 4:135]

      The Prophet :saw: said:

"Whosoever leaves off obedience and separates from the Jamaa'ah and dies, he dies a death of jaahiliyyah. Whoever fights under the banner of the blind, becoming angry for 'asabiyyah (nationalism/tribalism/partisanship) or calling to 'asabiyyah, or assisting 'asabiyyah, then dies, he dies a death of jaahiliyyah."

      Narrated 'Abdullah:

The Prophet, said, "Abusing a Muslim is Fusuq (evil doing) and killing him is Kufr (disbelief)." sahih bukhari

"Creeping upon you is the diseases of those people before you: envy and hatred. And hatred is the thing that shaves. I do not say it shaves the hair but it shaves the religion!

By the One in whose Hand is my soul, you will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Certainly, let me inform you of that which may establish such things: spread the greetings and peace among yourselves."

[Recorded by Imam Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi]

The physical description of Adam and Eve are never mentioned in Quran or Hadith.

However in Stories of The Prophet by Ibn Kathir, it is mentioned that when the creation of Adam (AS), Allah took a handful of the dust of the earth and mixed a into it the colors of white, black, yellow, and red. That is the reason why men are born different colors.

        Allah knows best.

            Does it matter?
Believe none of what you hear, and only half of what you see.
