  • I tutor a 7 year old girl whom I think has got Dyslexia. How could I know and deal?

    السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
I tutor a 7 year old girl, and I think she's got Dyslexia because she can hardly read. How could I know if she's got it or not? And How should I deal with the problem. She's got a good accent, listens and repeats well but when it gets to reading its hard for her.
Her father says she's good in Arabic but she doesn't like math and English.

:wswrwb: when u say her father says shes good in arabic, do you mean she can read arabic fine ?

my son had dyslexic symptoms after becoming temporarily disabled by swelling on the brain caused by the MMR vaccine. I took him to a private tutor who specialises in dyslexia and she gave him a piece of yellow acetate which allowed him to read the words in his books without visual disturbance. maybe u could try that insha Allah it may help.
"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be (against) rich or poor: for Allah can best protect both. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you swerve, and if you distort (justice) or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do." [An-Nisa 4:135]

      The Prophet :saw: said:

"Whosoever leaves off obedience and separates from the Jamaa'ah and dies, he dies a death of jaahiliyyah. Whoever fights under the banner of the blind, becoming angry for 'asabiyyah (nationalism/tribalism/partisanship) or calling to 'asabiyyah, or assisting 'asabiyyah, then dies, he dies a death of jaahiliyyah."

      Narrated 'Abdullah:

The Prophet, said, "Abusing a Muslim is Fusuq (evil doing) and killing him is Kufr (disbelief)." sahih bukhari

"Creeping upon you is the diseases of those people before you: envy and hatred. And hatred is the thing that shaves. I do not say it shaves the hair but it shaves the religion!

By the One in whose Hand is my soul, you will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Certainly, let me inform you of that which may establish such things: spread the greetings and peace among yourselves."

akhie dont limit to yellow acetate as it can be different colours for different people, from my very limited knowledge, so green even red

Also akhie I would be careful not to simply explain it as dyslexia, its easily done (i worked in school and other fields and have a n autistic son). There is a readiness to label these days and often it simply maybe lack of interest or laziness which becomes a habit and that is what needs changing

Also akhie it maybe you just need to 'slow' her down. intelligent kids sometimes make 'dyslexia type' mistakes due to being too quick. Its like kids with scruffy writing some are just scruffy as tehy cannot be bothered, some are scruffy because the mind is quicker than the hands so in order to get everything down speed becomes the key factor

              10 Helpful Dyslexia Resources:

A friend was not diagnosed until he was 14. By then, so many adults (his own parents too!) in his life had labelled him a probelm child. He was convinced that he lacked intelligence, morals, and any hope of acheiving in school, or life. Good of you to try to help this girl acheive what she is capable of realizing. Your encouragement and resources will no doubt aid her immensely.
My wife has as much to do with how good of a husband, a parent, and man that I am as I do.
