Drastic changes in diet may work for those who are in the weight extremes, but this is only a short term benefit. In the long run one would need a varied diet consisting of whole grains and pulses, vegetables, fruits and meat with moderate spicing.
Your exercise regime has to fit in with your food intake if your going to gym and your lifting heavy for 4 days a week and doing moderate cardio twice a week your body is going to collapse your going to be hungry all the time.

So lots of beans and lentils and leafy vegetables in combination with good sized portions of meats and fish. Have you seen the size of fisherman arms in the third world their arms are enourmous. have you seen how much fish they eat easily in the 800 grams of tuna steak a day, if not more. their protein intake is abnormal but they strain their muscles constantly by lifting so much .

so you need to have the right lifestyle for the food intake.

High Protein - Low carbs are good. I think Dukan Diet is closest I can think of when it comes to HP - LC diet. And yes also try a high protein, moderate carb and medium-low fat diet.
