Sis Female Genital mutilation is haram however Sunnah female circumcision is allowed and its completely different to what they do it in Somalia and Sudan where the whole clitoris is exterminated that is considered illegal and haram under the Sharia. However the type of circumcision that is allowed in Islam is when only a little bit of the clitoris is taken so basically the hood of the clitoris NOT the actual clitoris its self. NOT the same as female genital mutilation where the clitoris is taken out as only the skin on top of the clitoris is allowed to be removed. Also look up hoodectomy which is pretty much Sunnah circumcision and private doctors offer it to females in western countries and it is not harmful to women whatsoever if it is done the way the Prophet S.A.W said to do it. I think that people need to make a distinct with regards to female circumcision as whenever someone thinks of it people assume mutilation because the term is used interchangeably.

First time i heard of FGM was on this very own forum... it shocked me when i researched about it... i felt queasy, so upsetting

But, in regards to circumcision, i am aware that for a male it benefits them against diseases and infection and other things.
However as described above, what does a little cut of the clitoris supposed to do? Are there any health benefits behind it like there is for the male version...
      Bye...

I know what you mean I found out in an Islamic class as we were studying some Islamic book on woman's issues and our teacher told us. At first we were horrified, however she explained in detail how you are only allowed to take a little bit of skin of the clitoris and how if done the way it is supposed to it doesn't affect a woman when she gets married ect. However, in all honesty that's what i'm not sure about because in the Islam QA website it says that it reduces her desires and increases cleanliness like the male circumcision, yet on the hoodectomy site i looked at it doesn't say that, but apparently it increases pleasure. It's confusing so maybe it reduces desire slightly but increases pleasure maybe?

I know it was so weird... i self taught myself about this issue. But now i am understanding it more. There is the extreme unislamical manner the proper way.

That is strange so it reduces desire but increases pleasure... hmm lol... i will have to go on a self-teaching rummage to see the true facts :o

seriously don't know why people continue to discuss something that is not discussable. Please avoid mixing the topics.

So I'm a femimuslima because I think female circumcision is not an Islamic tradition?

This forum has has warped understanding of feminism.

I'm saddened by such news. However, it's more disappointing to know, that feeling this way makes me a femi-muslim according to my muslim brothers.

                          no

nor is that what i was implying

here you have a young girl who died from an operation, where people die from operations every day, sometimes tooth extractions

now, whether what was done was done correctly, or incorrectly, or within islam or outside of islam is not even the reason behind my comment

but rather, how this will become a lightning rod to attack islam

and thats the point that short -sighted femimuslimahs tend to overlook

Is there an argument over the permissibility of female circumcision?
