since she can;t disobey her husband, she laughed

    and that charmed her husband
and that made him take back what he said
and then they lived happily ever after

    the end

That depends, what if their were no men at the moment i.e and no latter, forget that, would they have caught on fast enough to bring the ladder for her to step down, they weren't the ones getting divorce after all. They probably would have been startled and in shock at the deceleration of the idiotic husband. The women could not have stayed still and waited for a deliberate solution, she was divorced if she climbed up a step, down a step and if she remained still.

By the way, I got this riddle from a passage in a book called Gems And Jewels. ie it has wise sayings, interesting events, and moral lessons from Islamic history.

Exactly basically its an intentional 3 talaq, but the wife who is ludicrously oblivious still wants to be with him. It's nonsensical.

If my (un-existing) husband said those words to me, I wouldn't try to manage a way to be his wife. I'd punch his face.

That's a nice bed time story. Some knives and karate kicks should've been within the plot.

That's an awe-inspiring, astonishing response, totally beats the correct answer by an awesome shot if you ask me.
