Next time, insha Allah, tell the person before they sit down.
It's a bit pointless if you tell her afterwards and embarassing too.
But, doing it before saves you from that.

Then know that often through delay are gifts received'

when a muslim prays i know they perform wudu to cleanse their body, but dont their clothes have to be clean/pure as well? like the hadith that says trousers above the ankle so as not to get dirty and drag dirt into the mosque. if this lady on the bus was going to pray would her prayer have valid due to being dirty from whatever she sat in? just wondering.

There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. 'Good pride' represents our dignity and self-respect. 'Bad pride' is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance.

It depends. Clothes are pure unless there's najasah on them (impurity). For example, urine, feces, vomit, etc.
But, stuff like chewing gum, saliva, sweat are not unclean.
Secure few moments, everyday, to reflect upon the innumerable blessings of Allah and thank Him for bestowing them upon you.

"A person who is blessed with the ability to be grateful, shall never be deprived of barakah and increase in blessings."
        - Rasulullah (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم)‎

thanks, so without knowing what was on the seat it probably have been best to tell her in case her prayers were invalid.
