  • Toddler/Family Pets?

    :salams

I'm thinking of getting a pet for the family. I'm not keen at all on cats or dogs and currently am going three ways:

    couple of budgies
    couple of guinea pigs
couple of gold fish - lol.

Apparently we had some cats and fish and birds in our childhood but it was before I can remember so really as far as I'm concerned I have little/no pet experience.

What do you reckon is best? I'm thinking of the budgies more than guinea pigs but then guinea pigs look really cute and apparently are very docile and safe but some in the family might think it's just a fat rat so the budgies might be more suitable.

    any advice?

how much does it all cost? thinking more of the cage and feed as I've seen that the pets themselves are quite cheap.

        :wswrwb:

Man I really wanna get a cat but dad says no :( :( aftr my old one died recently..

Guinea pigs, no idea about them. They look cute but not sho if they smell.

Fish as long as you have a good filter that's capable of cleaning all the waste a goldfish (most pooing fishes) makes. If you keep it in the right conditions you wouldn't need to clean it very often. Can be a bit expensive since you would need filter running 24/7.

Birds, don't know about them but that's sad keeping them in cages all day.

Cats are the most rewarding IMO, get a kitten if you do but thing is u get too attached to it :( I know how it feels. You would need to get cat litter and stuff but it's much more easier to take care of compared to others and also u wud need to vaccinate it and stuff.

the cat does its mess outside and buries it......

cleaning out a fish tank is a major operation... and it costs electric....

If it's harram to buy a cat how are people meant to have them as pets? You don't get cats for free

Yeah I agree, they are worth it.. Yeah it is haram apparently, just do some googling you can find a hadith on that.

Ofcourse you can get it for free, you can get it off from a shelter, eventhough u may need to pay some money for it but that goes to the shelter to rescue more animals so you are technically getting it for free, you can see ppl in gumtree giving it for free aswell in the pet section..

erm its like this, i have a cat, it has kittens, i give them away, for free? i got my cat for free from a neighbour, plenty of muslims give away kittens because it is haram to buy a cat...

you could also try a rescue cat...

What if the cats randomly do their business on the couch or the bed? :S

I'd get a nice colorful parrot or something. Plus, parrots live for a loooong time and you can teach them to talk and stuff. We got one back home, :masha: he must be at least 15 years old by now. It's not that hard to clean the mess in the cage.

Also, rabbits are cute, too, but not too sure about their bathroom etiquette.
Secure few moments, everyday, to reflect upon the innumerable blessings of Allah and thank Him for bestowing them upon you.

They don't actually do it everywhere if you litter train it unless you trap them in a room where there is no litter (sand) for it to go.

Rabbits are cute but they stink..

How well do they clean themselves?
And, if they sit on the couch, would it become najis?
