JEDDAH: Although Islam permits men taking more than one wife, the issue of polygamy remains a controversial one with many Saudi women dead set against sharing their husbands with others.http://arabnews.com/saudiarabia/article308231.ece

This is why polygamy is allowed if you can treat all the wives EQUALLY.

A righteous man will only take on more than one wife if he can maintain fairness in treatment to all of them and a righteous woman will understand and accept this.
O son of Adam! -Your mother gave birth to you while you were weeping,
while those around you were laughing in joy.
Work for the day, the day you die,
that you may be laughing in joy then,
while they will be weeping for you.

          You said it.

I see wrongs on both side, wife and husband, in that article, but husbands are definitely farther away from Sharia commands regarding polygyny.

          May Allah guide us all.
Secure few moments, everyday, to reflect upon the innumerable blessings of Allah and thank Him for bestowing them upon you.

Sister, the ayah says "but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one" (4:3) It does not say equally thus you would find in the seerah that the Prophet didn't treat his wives equally but rather fairly/justly.
