    Re: Proper route to knowledge

    17-

You are seeking knowledge so that it may bring you closer to Allah

You are not seeking knowledge so that your personal Ijaza collection turns into a Library

Ijaza shopping is not the purpose of seeking knowledge rather Ijaza is the way in which this was protected and abusing it will be worse for you on the day of judgement

there is too much I I I I I amongst us , there this Arrogant expectation that many of us in the west build up due to the education system over there.

If the shaykh or shaykha considers you to be a ijaza level student then he will give you one . there is no need for you to demand it.
I know a brother, who traveled to gain an ijaza in quran as he is hafidh mashallah etc etc, I was with him when he called the shayke and just to add to your point in the post, the shayke asked him, what do you want to study, as the shayke teaches many islamic sciences , the brother replied , quran and would like to gain ijaza.

At this point the shaykh laughed, and said "do you think your ready for an ijaza"
      Brother: Yes
Shayke: It does not matter what you think, it matters what I think
      Brother: Shocked and puzzled.
Shayke: Tells day and time to arrive at his house.

The brother initially thought the shayke was arrogant but the irony is that, the brother was the one with the arrogance in his heart who expected an ijaza.
to add to this, the first lesson was delayed for 3 hours. Once again one of the brothers was not amused whilst waiting outside the shaykes house, however, my respect for the shayke increased at the practical tarbiyah he was teaching the brothers. Some understood where as other students of knowledge around the world, seriously need to take notice of this point mashaAllah..

Evaluate yourself on a daily, weekly, 2 week monthly basis and see what you learned and whether you could improve. Otherwise you will find yourself spending awefull a lot of time on something that does not benefit you.

Socialising and spending time with friends will be very limited if you decide to study deen seriously. Your time will be limited , because between your job, family and your Islamic classes very little time is left to socialise.

So be aware that your embarking on a spiritual journey rather than a fun road trip.

Not that seeking knowledge is boring and less entertaining rather

what you will find is that there is no happiness and fun and sweetness like finding learning something new.

For example i studied each Riwaya individually and each time you learn something the pleasure it gives you is just amazing . It's addiction that has no end because there is so much ilm out there.

When you have a family be careful to give them their right over you and spend sufficient time with them.

You study this knowledge so that it may benefit you and to mistreat your family like this would be harmful to you deen and akhira

22 Keep good company , be around those that will benefit you, do not hang around with those that do not benefit you in anyway and only drag you down.

Example if your studying Quran hang around with huffaadh who can help you all the time
