  • Beef Jerky

To everybody, Muslim/Non-Muslim, in the UK and not, has anyone ever tried Beef Jerky and - if you have - did you like it?

    Was it tasty?

Did you feel it was nutritous?

Was it worth the money you paid for it?

Did you return to purchasing it after the first time?

Do you still purchase/consume it now?

    And finally...

If a halal beef jerky was made available in the UK, would you purchase it?

    [ Perhaps as a snack for sahoor/sehri

Or a starter for a meal

Or a side in a dish

Or as a general snack during the day or night

Or as a travel food ]?

    Let me know!

I love it, guess it's one of those marmite foods.

It's usually too expencive for me though, i don't get to eat it much and the jerky i've bought seems to be fairly poor quality. I like it as a snack (if no one's around, too smelly).

Edit: I'm not muslim but would eat halal jerky for sure if it was good.

                    Weird thing it is.
Its meant to be for hunters, who dried some of the meat of the kill, and took it with them on long journeys.

Its too much effort to chew anyway.

Many thanks for the feedback so far, appreciated.

For those that don't know what Beef Jerky is - here it is:

Its usually strips of lean meat, usually beef but also lamb or even pork at times, cut into thin distinct strips of certain sizes, and then 'dried' using one of three procedures:

                      1) In the air over 12-24 hours

                      2) By slow cooking in an oven for hours

                      3) By Using a dehydrator (the kind used to make dried fruits etc)

It has a sort of chewy, hard feel. A distinct meaty smell as soon as it comes out of the packet, and a lasting after-taste of meat which some either like or find unfavourable... Depending on the pallate... Although fortunately there are many varieties, with the classic type having a smokey taste, with other varities I've found in research including Honey BBQ, Spicy, Oriental Spiced, Mexican Chilli (many spicy varities) and even fruity flavours...

I'm hoping for more feedback c'mon there's more than a thousand members on this forum let us see your feedback please

                          Salaamu Alaykum

Please provide feedback as to how this 'sounds haraam' despite not providing any evidence, be it verses from the Qur'aan, Ahadeeth from notable collections, or decisions made by reputable scholars that would entice you to avoid what is effectively dried meat 'at all costs'

NOTE: 'pork' was used in the previous post to describe the kinds of meats used to make the non-halal versions of this product, and shouldn't be perceived as one of the ingredients of a proposed halal alternative

I dont know what kind of jerky you guys have in the UK but the one in america is the best ever. We have jerky and we have those beef sticks like in the picture above. Its thicker than jerky and more meaty.
