Erm..not sure coz Surat Baqarah I did with my friends especially juzz 1 an so I've got a memory of the masjid with that Surah an it's stuck alhamdulilah. It flows too, like the first juzz has a story and the second juzz is mainly rulings and the third juzz till the end is a mixture. Not sure if that's helped.

Alhamdulilah my 1juzz of revision a day is going well and I've caught up with the ones I didn't do so In Shaa Allah that should be good until I'm ready to take it up a notch

Btw something for all of us In Shaa Allah to watch

This sunday inshaAllah i will finish memorizing Surah Al-Emran. So i will have memorized Al Baqarah And Al Emran alhamdulilah!

In your experience what is easier and what did you do?
Should i just keep going with An Nisa and so on, or should i jump back to the smaller surahs for motivation maybe??

            Baraka allahu fekum
:wswrwb: I know it's late reply (let us know that you decided). It depends if you need motivation or not an if you're fine with the long Surahs.

            I got few questions for you all;

Who/what was your main motivation for wanting to start your hifdh? Did you ever make dua for yourself to Allah? Do you know of someone who possibly made dua for you (whether its a teacher/parent etc)?

I was contemplating this last night.

I needed the kick so I owent ahead and memorized juzz' Amma alhamudlilah. I will inshallah keep going this way till I reach Surah an-noor. By that time, I will go to Egypt inshallah and finish.
My main motivation to start hifdh was crossing a brother on YouTube called Fatih Seferagic. What motivated me about him was watching him being a Bosnian hafidh younger than me , not even native Arabic speaker leading taraweeh.. That made me want to start memorizing, and shaykh Abu bakr al shatri has also been a huge inspiration and motivation . Always looked up to him as a role model may Allah swt grant him every good on my behalf .

Now I think about it, there was an episode in the Arabic program called travelling with the Quran by shaykh Fahd al kandari (the one with the blind Egyptian boy) , where the shaykh said; what will the excuse be of those with sight who doesn't memorize the Quran. This has always sticked to my mind and comes up whenever I feel like slacking.
May Allah help us through Ameen.

the questions about what motivated you made me think.
when i think about it, really it's the quran itself that motivated me to memorize it.

we are not going to get anywhere without dua anyway - that has to be done untill we die
"O you who have believed, shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful punishment?
(It is that) you believe in Allah and His Messenger and strive in the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives. That is best for you, if you should know.
He will forgive for you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow and pleasant dwellings in gardens of perpetual residence. That is the great attainment"
                .

About dua I meant if you think someone made dua for you to take this path.

For me it was Imam Uthman Mustafa Kamal who proper inspired me during Ramadhan coz his recitation is just beautiful. An I remember making dua myself in every Ramadhan but I really think that secretly my father made and is making dua for me. I realised that I've inherited certain traits from him an if that's the case he's defo making/made dua for me as he says so subhanAllah,

i don't think anyones made dua for me (apart from maybe some people i haven't met face to face :o).
i remember making dua in ramadan as well - what better time to make dua is there subhanallah.

what are the traits you think you inhereted? it might benefit me and others

My Hifz journey so far 50%

                          Assalaamualeikum wa rahmautullahi wa barakatuhu,

Firstly Jazak'Allah KhaIran for this beautiful thread.

I,d like to share my journey so far.

Not so long ago, just over a couple of years or maybe three years back I could not read Arabic. That's when I got introduced to my ustadh who has been leading the taraweeh prayers in the local masjid since over a decade or so.

Alhumdulillah I started with the Noorani Qaida and worked steadily and consistently thrice a week with him with little or no practice by myself, except for Ramadhaan.

After having completed my First reading of the Quran I did get a little more fluent and that's when my ustadh slowly encouraged me to memorize some more short. Surahs . I remember clearly I used to dedicate only the 20 minutes after fajr till ishraaq for memorizing 3-4 lines.

It was beautiful but I really didn't review much and didn't have the firm intention to really become Haafiz.

Then came the time that I had memorized the 2nd half of juz amma and that was an amazing feeling. Also I had worked to memorize Surah yaseen , mulk, sajdah and dhukkan slowly slowly just like 3-5 lines at a time and whilst listening to the recitation to try to imitate the pauses and breaths.

Then finally I once read the virtues of Hifz from Fazal e Quran.

Alhumdulillah last October 2011 I made firm intention to become hafiz and started working to wards it half page a day.

I slowly increased to 1 page a day and finally reached 15 juz of memorization just a few weeks back.
now I have paused my memorization for a while as I feel I want to review more and become a strong half hafiz before I go ahead due to the increase in portion for review.

Alhumdulillah the journey has been beautiful and am looking forward to the road ahead.

I usually memorize 1 juz a month and mainly memorize fresh pages after fajr n review the same once after Maghreb.
I recently started reading the pages to be memorized the morning the previous night 10 times and it definitely has helped me memorize 2 pages within almost the same amounts of time. I do not understand Arabic but I do intend to learn that after my Hifz.

May Allah swt accept it from all of us and grant us the ability to live the Quran till the end. Aameen
