Is there some islamic evidence against walking in forests after dark? I've been told its seen as messing with jinn, but what if you're doing it just for a thrill or to get others scared?

He it is Who sends blessings on you, as do His angels, that He may bring you out from the depths of Darkness into Light: and He is Full of Mercy to the Believers. [Quran {33:43}]

As humans we shouldn't want to or even try to interact with the Jinn, it can also be taken up as Shirk. It's best to stay away إن شاء الله.

      Some Qur'an and Hadith:

And on the Day when He will gather them (all) together (and say): "O you assembly of jinns! Many did you mislead of men," ...
      The Noble Qur'an - Al-An'aam 6:128

The Prophet May Allah's peace and blessings be on him said, "Cover your utensils and tie your water skins, and close your doors and keep your children close to you at night, as the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away. When you go to bed, put out your lights, for the mischief-doer (i.e. the rat) may drag away the wick of the candle and burn the dwellers of the house."
Hadith - Sahih Bukhari 4:533, Narrated Jabi bin 'Abdullah May Allah be pleased with him

Some people asked Allah's Apostle about the foretellers. He said. -They are nothing." They said, -O Allah's Apostle! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Apostle said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the foreteller) (as one puts something into a bottle). The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies."
      Hadith - Al-Bukhari 7.657, Narrated 'Aisha, r.a.

      6. 'And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the masculine among the jinns, but they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief.
      The Noble Qur'an - Al-Jinn 72: 6-7

        what is a jinn :S

The Prophet (saw) said, Verily, the knots of Islam will be undone one by one. Whenever one knot is lost, then the people grabbed onto the one which came after it. The first of these knots will be ruling and the last will be the salah.[1]

The author of Sitoon as-Sultaniyah says about this Hadith: “It was the Prophet who tied together the knots of Islam, including the uppermost knot of ruling after he established the Islamic state…As mentioned by Imam Mawardi the leadership has been proscribed as the succession of the Prophet in protecting the deen and governing the societal affairs. In this respect – Imam Baidawi mentioned that the Imama/Khalifah is the succession from the Prophet in the establishment of the laws of the Shari’ah. So without the Imam the laws lie unapplied and the territory is not protected effectively. The hadith indicates that it is the uppermost knot that keeps the subsequent knots safe from being untied. This is since it is the ruler that is responsible to apply Islam in its entirety, to implement the limits proscribed by Allah and to protect the society. Imam Ahmed mentioned without an Imam (for the Muslims as their leader) there would be fitna, and the destruction of the symbols of Islam ending with the Prayer is a great fitna.[2]

A Jinn is another level of creation created by Allah. They are created of smokeless fire and have free will like humans, but more of a weaker will. Unlike the Angels who have no free will and are made of light. Jinns can be good or bad, they are invisible to the human eyes in their normal state. The Arabic word Jinn comes from the verb "Janna" which means to hide.

Everyone has a personal Jinn. If a person submits to the will of Allah by becoming Muslim, their Jinn will have to submit. If a person dies and does not submit and become Muslim their Jinn will sit at their grave and curse them until the day of Judgement. Some people allow their Jinn to influence them.

The term Jinnee (Eng. Genie) is equivalent to Jinn, and Jaann may be used as it's plural or as another singular form. In Islamic literature Shaytaan(Eng. satan, devil) is a name given to disbelieving Jinns.

"The Jinns were created from the fire of a scorching wind."(Surah Al-Hijr 15:27). They are not "fallen angels", as angels are made from light according to the following statement of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) narrated by his wife Aisha: "The angels were created from light and the Jinn from a fiery wind." (Sahih Muslim)

Allaah created Humans and Jinns only to worship him:
'I have not created Jinn and mankind (for any other purpose) except to worship me.' The Holy Qur'an: Chapter: adh-Dhariyat, Verse: 56.

And when the jinn decides to follow u home and possess u, won't be quite so "thrilling" would it?

They are nothing to be feared alhamdulillah just another creation of Allah Subhaanahu wa Ta'ala, but by doing silly things to scare ur mates ur asking for trouble as Allah Ta'ala might test u with them!

I've been told that we shouldn't walk under trees at night as trees are the the home of Jinn, but I've been doing it all my life. As for graveyards I've been told that we should stay away from places like that at night. This thread may be of use:

                          Firstly don't scare others.
Secondly don't look for thrill with jinns.
Thirdly don't be scared of jinns and be scared of Allah.
