      Twisted undergarments

      As-salaamu alaykum

It's more serious than you think.

I think it was the Islamic scholar Akbar Ahmed, in his comparison between Western and Islamic thinking, who stated that Islam does not embrace irony. Your kind of ironic humour is a double edged sword - it is good for debunking people who are pompous and talk nonsense, but irony is also a wit that frequently inflicts injury on others.

"O ye who believe! Let not a folk deride a folk who may be better than they (are), not let women (deride) women who may be better than they are; neither defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. Bad is the name of lewdness after faith. And whoso turn not in repentance, such are evil-doers."
      Soorah Al-Hujuraat, Ayat 11

In short, good humour should elevate, not deride.

Anyway, I can assure you all my clothes are straight and well fitting, even if I did buy them from Tradex!

          Check the check pattern

          As-salaamu alaykum

At the risk of sending this thread on a wild tangent, the Tradex shirts were cheap - but the cheapest had a check pattern.

The thing is, I had an inkling that there might be a hadith forbiding check-patterned clothes. Can anyone confirm this?

I know silk and gold are forbidden to men.

I bought the plain ones, anyway.

I live in the North of England, by the way.

                Ingredients:

1 cup orange dahl (lentils) --- dunno its name :p
                2 cups water
                1/2 tsp grated ginger
                1 tsp salt
                1/2 tsp chilli powder
                1/4 tsp tumeric (haldi)
                3 tbsp oil
                2/3 ginger, chopped finely
                1 green chilli
                coriander leaves to garnish

                Method:

Boil the dahl in the water until white foamy stuff comes to the surface and remove the white stuff with a spoon.

Add the ginger, salt, chilli, tumeric and cumin to the pan.

Bring down to a medium heat and simmer for 15 mins-- keep checking to make sure the water is not reduced too much, if it is add a little boiling water from the kettle.

Fry the garlic and chilli in the oil until the garlic is golden.

Add this to the dahl and mix together well.

                Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

EAT. This is SO yummy! :D<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
                What does 'freedom' mean?

Does the eagle want to swim in the sea,
                Restricted by the sky?

Does the fish want to dance on the wind,
                Not enough river to explore?

Yet the sky is freedom for the bird
                but death for the fish,

The sea is wide for the fish
                but will engulf the bird.

We ask for freedom but freedom to do what?
We can only express our nature as it was created.

The prayer mat of the earth is freedom,
freedom from slavery to other than the One,
Who offers an shoreless ocean of love to swim in
and a horizon that extends to the next life,
Yet we chose the prison and call it freedom.

                        Date and Banana Loaf :inlove:

                        Ingredients:

3 and a half ounces butter
                        8 ounces Self-Raising flour
2 and a half ounces sugar
4 and a half ounces stoned dates-- chopped
                        2 bananas-- roughly mashed
                        2 eggs-- lightly beaten
                        2 tbsp honey

                        Method:

                        1. Grease a loaf tin

                        2. Place flour in a bowl, and rub in the butter using your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs

                        3. Stir in the sugar, chopped dates, bananas, beaten eggs and honey. Mix to form a soft dropping consistency.

                        4. Spoon the mixture into the tin and level the surface

                        5. Bake on Gas Mark 4 for about 40 mins, or until the cake has risen and is golden brown

                        6. Remove from oven, leave to cool then stuff your face :banan:

The best thing about this recipe, is that you do not need any special blenders or mixer equipment. Just a bowl and wooden spoon.

                          Yummy Trifle :D

                          Ingredients:

                          Madeira cake
Assorted fruits (apple, banana, tangerine, tinned peaches and tinned pineapply are yum!)
Chocolate chips (if desired :p )
                          Carton of Ambrosia custard
Ginger biscuits (Hobnobs work fantastically )
                          Tub of double cream

                          Method :meow:

                          1. Slice the madeira cake thinly and line the bowl with the slices, until the whole bowl is covered

                          2. Cut up the various fruits and mix in a bowl. Chop up the tinned peaches and pineapples and add some of the peach juice into the fruit mixture.

                          3. Add chocolate chips to the fruit mixture (if desired)

                          4. Crush the biscuits and sprinkle an ample amount over the madeira cake.

                          5. Using the peach juice, sprinkle over the cake so it sweetens and softens it a little.

                          6. Now add the mixed fruits to the bowl spreading evenly.

                          7. Layer the Ambrosia custard over the fruit and then another layer of fruits, and custard again and spread evenly.

                          8. Stick the bowl in the fridge for a while so the custard can set a little, and in the meantime whip the double cream until drops blobs when you lift the utensil (this stage is crucial, because you dont want to overwhip the cream, or it will be too hard to spread on the custard)

                          9. Spread the cream over the custard, and decorate using either chocolate chips, hundreds and thousands, or for a summer trifle slice some kiwi and strawberry on top. :)

                          10. Leave to cool in the fridge for at least a half hour before serving.

                          11. Eat and forget about how much washing up is waiting at the sink. :D

Who offers an shoreless ocean of love to swim in
and a horizon that extends to the next life,
Yet we chose the prison and call it freedom.

Btw, all the above recipes have been tried and tested by Yours Sincerely ;) So do not fear, and become masters of your kitchens! :D
