There are special requirements for the meat to be halal. Tasmiyah is the most important of them.

Although this is the most important, let's not forget the other conditions:

In the strictest form of Thabah (sacred system of slaughtering animals):

1.) The animal may not be inflicted with any type of injury prior to Thabah. Electric shocks, stunning.etc

2.) The knife has to be exceptionally sharp

3.)Removal of entrails prior to immersing them in hot water

4.) Skinning may not commence while there is still movement in the animal

5.) Complete muslim supervision from the point of slaughter to the point of delivery into the custody of the muslim trader/consumer.

Leaving aside the halaal certification bodies..it really does make you wonder whether commercially processed chickens are 100% halaal according to shariah..

As Hadhrat Shah Waliyullah says in his Hujjatullahil Baalighah:

Thabah is the Sunnat of all the ambiya (as). Among the benefits is mercy to the slaughtered animal, for verily, this way is the most humane method of extracting the animal's rooh. This is substantiated by the pronouncement of Rasullulah (saw) namely, " Be merciful to the zabeehah (animal to be slaughtered)".

Apart from the spiritual and moral effects, as a result of eating haraam, diseased carrion, the physical health suffers as well...
